King's St Alban's

22 June

Ending the year on a musical high!

The final Informal Concert of the 2022-2023 concert season was held in the Chapel at King’s St Alban’s on Tuesday afternoon. This was predominantly a Pre-Prep Concert (with a small number of ‘special guests’ from Y3 and Y4 who had to miss last week’s event), and our youngest musicians made sure we finished the year in style.

A large number of the children were performing in their very first Informal Concert, and they were both nervous and excited to be taking to the stage for the first time. Elodie (Y2: violin), Maddie (Y2: piano), George (Y2: guitar), Leen (Y1: piano), Hugo (Y1: violin), Archie (Y1: violin), Akshay (Y1: violin) and Charlie (Y1: violin) are all to be congratulated on those special first performances. A few of our regulars also made their debut performances on a new instrument. Thomas (Y1: violin), Tiegan (Y1: singing), Magson (Y1: violin), Daniel (Y2: singing), Iris (Y2: singing) and Bertie (Y2: singing) all stepped up to offer us something different, and it was wonderful to see them expand their musical horizons.

This was a delightful event, and the sheer number of youngsters involved says much about the strength of instrumental music at King’s St Alban’s. Clearly, Mrs. Gunter and the music team have much to look forward to in the future as these budding soloists mature and develop.

Everyone played beautifully, and the variety of music on offer was delightful. From the funky Garage Sale (Julietta) to the haunting Hallelujah (Edith), as well as old favourites such as Merrily We Roll Along (Sofia) and Twinkle, Twinkle (George), there was something for everyone to enjoy. All the children had worked incredibly hard with their instrumental teachers to prepare, and the standard of performance was high. Well done, everyone!

This was our Y2 children’s last solo appearance as Pre-Prep pupils, but there is lots more to come in the future as they move on to the next exciting stage in the Prep School. We are looking forward to hearing many more performances from them over the coming years. Congratulations to everyone who took part: this was a fantastic way to end the day and we are all very proud of you!
