Football teams defy the spring showers
U11/10A v Moor Park
On Wednesday afternoon, the boys made the trip over to the King’s Cinderella Ground pitches to welcome Moor Park. This was one of the games of the season so far; it had it all: nine goals, a magnificent comeback and lots of children thoroughly enjoying their football. The match started off very end to end but, after some magic from an individual from Moor Park, we found ourselves 2-4 down at half-time. The boys looked a little deflated as they were very unfortunate to be losing at this stage. Nevertheless, they showed fantastic character to turn the game completely on its head in a nine goal thriller! A special mention goes to Joshua, who scored a hattrick, and also to Will R, who controlled the game fantastically.
U11/10B v Moor Park
Wednesday afternoon also saw nine boys from Years Five and Six represent St Alban’s B Team in a football match against Moor Park. After a productive team warm-up, the boys were raring to go, and immediately showed that they were all keen and desperate to do their best for the team. Despite having the majority of possession in the first ten minutes, the boys couldn’t quite manage to get the ball across the goal line, due to some great last-ditch defending from the Moor Park defence and goalkeeper. However, once Arlo broke the deadlock with the first goal, the boys were keen to add to the score line. Further goals from Ben, Luca and Archie followed, before Arlo added another to his tally. After keeping a clean sheet in the first half, goalkeeper Wilf swapped positions with Ben, who also kept a clean sheet in the second half, allowing the rest of the team to gain some valuable experience by playing in positions in which they might not normally play. Harry B put in a great performance in both midfield and attack, whilst Harry D also played well in midfield, with both boys having several chances and nearly scoring before being denied by some more good saves from the Moor Park goalkeeper. Rory was solid in the centre, made some great tackles and always made ground when he received the ball, whilst Uriah was a constant threat and also managed to score after the ball took a slight deflection off a Moor Park defender on its way into the goal.
Overall, the match was a very pleasing and promising team performance, with the boys demonstrating excellent teamwork, effort, commitment and determination. Well done to all of the boys who played and helped to make it a really enjoyable afternoon.
