Geography field trip provides hands-on learning
To reinforce their learning this term, Year Five took part in a Geography field trip last week. To bring their studies to life, pupils travelled to Hanley Swan, where they were well located to build on their recent studies of geographical features of the Malvern Hills and Upton-upon-Severn.
5SH were the first class to depart from school for the two day field trip, with 5AK following in their footsteps later in the week. Over the course of the week both classes spent time camping at Blackmore Camping Ground in Hanley Swan. The trips were blessed with good weather: not too wet and not too hot!
On site, to encourage independence, the children pitched their own tents and cooked their own evening meals, all under the watchful supervision of the staff present. On a visit to the Malvern Hills, pupils took part in an evening walk up to the ridge and took part in some field work on the hills, linked to map and compass work.
Moving away from physical geography, pupils visited Upton-upon-Severn to look at tourism and local facilities. A talk by Mr and Mrs Williams from the Environment Agency gave them an insight into the town’s flood defence system and a visit to the Morgan Motor Company factory completed the trip. During their tour of the factory, pupils gained a fascinating glimpse into the history of local industry.
The learning from the field trip will have been invaluable for the pupils and we are sure that many school memories will have been made. Both classes were excellent ambassadors for the School and their behaviour was exemplary. The staff who accompanied the classes were impressed with the mature approach the pupils took to the field trip and their studies. Excellent work Year Five!
