Harvest Festival – Giving at the Heart of Hawford

This morning, the King’s Hawford Community came together in The Barn to celebrate our Harvest Festival. The Barn was packed to the rafters with pupils from Reception to Year Six, staff, and a mix of parents, grandparents and guardians.

After a brief introduction from Mr Stigant, our Reception pupils kicked off proceedings with an energetic performance of Dig, Dig, Digging! The children did a wonderful job, delivering a confident performance. Next up the whole of Pre-Prep joined forces to deliver rousing renditions of Dingle Dangle Scarecrow and Jitterbug Beans. In all of the performances, the Pre-Prep children not only sang their hearts out but also remembered all the actions that accompanied the songs. For their final song, Pre-Prep were joined by Year Three for a high energy performance of old favourite, Big Red Combine Harvester.

A group of Year Six pupils then delivered the poem Harvest Moon. This wonderful performance combined spoken word and sign language; all members of the King’s Hawford community have embraced the use of sign language, making the school a truly inclusive place.

Reverend Rich, always a popular visitor to King’s Hawford, shared his Harvest thoughts with the gathered audience. Our pupils love welcoming Rev Rich to school; his visual assemblies help bring his teachings to life and pupils thoroughly enjoy getting involved. This year Rev Rich challenged pupils to think about the gift of food, focusing on how food manages to get to our plates. He spoke about all of the people involved, and asked pupils to be thankful to everyone who is part of the process. Rev Rich finished by talking about those who might not have enough to eat, and referred to the wonderful work done by the Worcester Food Bank.

Our Harvest Festival Celebration was rounded off by two fantastic performances. First up, Years Three to Six sang Posh Nosh and then members of Sing and Sign Club mesmerized the audience with a superbly signed performance of Seeds of Friendship.

At the end of the assembly, Year Six pupils helped members of the Worcester Food Bank to load all of the donations into crates bound for the charity. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Harvest Celebration and to all those who so generously donated items to the Food Bank.
