Hotly contested Reading Competition reaches climax

This term Year Four pupils have been taking part in a Reading Competition, which formed part of the ‘speaking’ component of the English curriculum. Since the start of the Summer Term, Year Four have worked their way through a series of heats. Children were asked to choose a short fiction passage that they would then read aloud for no more than three minutes.

This week the hotly contested competition reached its climax. On Monday, the final was held in the Stables Classrooms. We were delighted to welcome Mr Low, Head of English at King’s Worcester, to judge the final.

Our Year Four finalists took centre stage, taking it in turns to perform in front of Mr Low, their teachers and an audience of parents. Mr Low was blown away by the standard of the competition and had a tough time narrowing down his finalists. The following pupils were commended for their passionate performances: Arthur A, Elliot C, Olivia G, Charles N, Mary W and Sophie N.

In the end it was Pip K who took the honours, with Jess K and Chloe T in second and third place respectively. Mr Cook and Mrs O’Neill were extremely proud of all of the pupils who took part in the reading competition. Public speaking comes more easily to some than others but every pupil delivered their reading with confidence. All pupils demonstrated great resilience and it was also wonderful to observe how supportive the whole year group were of their peers. Well done Year Four!
