King's Hawford
29 April
King’s Hawford Equestrian team is riding high.
Riding high on the back of the King’s Hawford Fun Show Jumping event last weekend, the King’s Hawford Equestrian team were back in action this weekend at Rectory Farm.
First and foremost, we were delighted to welcome Maysie to the team, who joins with her pony, Brownie. Maysie began the day with a very early start as the first rider to go at 9am. The pair jumped a lovely round and kicked off the day beautifully.
The 40cm class, in which the judging is based on style, had a massive 72 entries, so was moved to the huge main arena as it had to run almost all day to allow everyone to compete. Our Hawford team was made up of Annie, Rosie, Chloe and Maysie, who all had a wonderful experience and rode beautifully, with Rosie coming in a fantastic seventh place.
Next cane the 50cm, which again was an enormous class of 61 riders. This team was made up of Adelyn, Rosie, Chloe, and Maysie, with Annie riding as an individual and the girls once again gave it their all. Adelyn and Rosie managed textbook clear rounds to get as close as possible to the optimum time; Adelyn finished in fourth place, so has qualified to ride at Hickstead as an individual in August, and Rosie finished in seventh, just outside the qualifying places.
Lastly, Rosie and Adelyn competed in the 60cm as individuals, a very new height for both girls to compete at. We are very proud of their determination and dedication in attending practices to step up to this new height, as, with the new height come more challenging fillers and wider spreads. This class was judged on speed and both girls gave it their all! Adelyn finished in sixth place out of 46 riders to qualify for Hickstead in this class too.
The Hawford Spirit definitely followed us to Cirencester for this competition. It was raining and very cold and the girls all supported each other beautifully, with lots of high-fives and encouraging cheers of support: resilience, bravery and determination were all very much on display. Thank you to all the parents and helpers for such a high standard of turnout. The girls and their ponies all looked very smart and represented our school superbly.
We are all looking forward to our next competition in June.
