King’s Hawford Honours Armistice Day

On Tuesday, the whole of King’s Hawford gathered at the Mound for a poignant Remembrance Service to honour Armistice Day.

Mr Butt, along with Heads of School Harry and Daisy, led the service with thoughtful words, and Sam L-C performed The Last Post before the two-minute silence, which was observed superbly by all the children.

The previous Sunday, Mr Butt, along with Daisy and Harry, represented the school at the annual Ombersley parade and wreath-laying service.

Children from Year 6 also visited The Hive, where they enjoyed a fascinating workshop run by a member of the archives team. The children learnt about the impact of World War One on the Home Front, focusing on Worcestershire. They examined original source material in the form of newspapers, photographs and school log books to find out how World War One affected children, women and men across the county, and why particular photographs/ information might have been included in newspapers and discussed the idea of bias.

It has been a moving and informative week at our school, where we have all gained a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices made by so many.
