LAMDA Students Dazzle in Spectacular Showcase

Following their afternoon performance at Fernhill House Care Home, the children returned to school to prepare for their first performances for parents.

An audience of 60 flowed into the Barn to watch the 28 children give their first official LAMDA presentation at school, leaving everyone eager to see more!

The show opened strongly with Mary W and Chloe’s calamitous Camping Out scene, followed by Nancy E in Year 2, who delivered an excellent performance of the hilarious poem Sock Song. She demonstrated bravery and resilience by taking to the stage alone when her partner was unable to attend due to illness.

Two performances of a scene from Blood Brothers, where twins separated at birth meet for the first time at age seven, were acted with great character—first by Jasper P with Louis Y, and later by Charles H with Louis Y. All three displayed a clear enjoyment of acting and delivered the scene with their own unique interpretations. From Year 3, Bonnie W and Isla H gave a lovely rendition of the poem The Magic Hat with clear diction. Tilly C and Evelyn J followed with their poem Yuck! making the audience giggle with hilariously disgusting descriptions. Cassian W and Isaac H delivered the poem It Wasn’t Me with great persuasiveness, skillfully alternating between solo lines and perfectly synchronized unison sections.

Next, the audience was transported to fairytale land with Two Sisters in a Frosty Situation (based on the Cinderella story). Rosie H and Annie W gave convincing performances as the unkind, self-absorbed sisters venturing into the woods to greedily seek gifts from a suitor. Later in the program, Ariana P and Zara O took on the same roles in another section of the script, portraying the ugly sisters with realistic attitudes and humorously quarrelling as they prepared for the ball.

The first of two extracts from Oliver!—when Oliver is sold to the owners of a funeral parlour—was brought to life by James B and Harry G, who gave super character performances as Mr. Claypole and Oliver Twist. The second extract depicted Oliver meeting the Artful Dodger, performed effectively by Charles C and Noah L. Rupert C and Aoife W perfectly recited the poem Sunday Tea with great rhythm and clarity. Fans of Horrid Henry particularly enjoyed the Secret Club scene, acted by Abigail T as Moody Margaret and Robyn C as Sour Susan, both convincingly portraying the stroppy and mean sides of their usually cheerful characters. Emily G and Maddie P humorously performed actions to accompany their poem Going Swimming.

The six Year 3 pupils—Bonnie W, Emily G, Maddie P, Aoife W, Rupert C, and Isla H—delivered the group poem The Sound Collector with confidence and teamwork, showing great potential for ensemble performance. Closing the showcase, Daisy E and Adelyn K portrayed two witches in Which Witch is Which? They impressed with their memorization of lengthy dialogue and brought their characters to life with flair.

All pupils spoke with confidence and strong projection, demonstrating excellent memory and a conviction of character. This performance was a testament to their hard work in the LAMDA company, and it has been wonderful to see their progress this term. Their polished showcase, including announcing their pieces and bowing gracefully, reflected their dedication and growth.

A special thank you to our LAMDA teacher, Gemma Carlisle, for preparing her students for the showcase and for organizing the earlier performance at Fernhill House Care Home. Thank you to all who supported the event—we look forward to more performances next term!
