Musicians shine at final Informal Concert
Tuesday saw a bumper Informal Concert, with almost thirty performances featuring musicians from Year One to Year Six. For some children this was their first concert: Aoife on the violin, Izzy singing, and Henry on his ‘cello all giving confident performances and showing great potential. For Year Six, it was their last informal concert, though there are several more musical events to come this term.
The concert opened with a spectacular performance from Michelle (Y6) on the piano, performing the beautiful Chopin Waltz in C# Minor, which astonishingly she had only been learning for a month. This was followed by excellent performances by Darcy (Y5) on the clarinet, and Year Sixes Barnaby and Issie on the saxophone and flute respectively. Moving to our youngest performers, William, Harper and Aoife in Year One gave jolly performances on the piano, singing and violin, followed by Year Twos Sophia and Georgia performing fluently on the piano. Simi evoked a suitably sinister spookiness in her song Haunted House, with Ffion and Eleanor providing two more confident piano performances.
Year Three performances saw Rosie, Izzy and Ariana demonstrate their beautifully tuneful singing voices, and Charlotte F and Daisy performing with assuredness on the violin. Henry and Austin showcased their ‘cello and bassoon playing in their first public performances, and it was great to see these two bass instruments in the concert. Further performances from Year Four included Olivia G’s beautiful violin rendition of Castle on a Cloud, Jessica’s staccato Spooked piece on the flute, and Elizabeth’s gentle Minuet on the piano, followed by Mary’s energetic and rhythmic Flag Dance on the ‘cello . The older children returned with stellar performances from James (Y5: trombone) and Max M (Y6: saxophone) each playing the cool James Bond Theme, Barnaby B singing a delightfully jazzy Let’s Face the Music and Dance, and Edith playing a serene piece entitled Some Day on her ‘cello. The concert closed with a truly calming and magical performance from the Hawford Harps Club (Max D, Iza MP and Ariana), playing the serene Skye Boat Song.
Congratulations to all of our musicians, and a very special thanks to our Year Sixes for their contributions to numerous informal concerts over the years. You will be missed! Thank you also to our wonderful team of peripatetic music teachers for the constant encouragement and inspiration you provide. Anyone wishing to begin learning an instrument in September should contact Mrs Hughes to be added to any waiting lists.
