Musicians start the year in style
The Chapel at King’s St Alban’s was packed to the rafters with supportive friends and families for our very first Informal Concert of this academic year. These events are as popular as ever, with nearly thirty enthusiastic young musicians keen to show off their hard work and the progress they have made over the last few weeks.
Held twice termly, our Informal Concerts provide a platform for every instrumentalist in the School, from our youngest children in Reception to our older, more experienced pupils in the higher years, to showcase the work they are doing with their instrumental teachers. Everyone is welcome, whether they have their lessons with a teacher at King’s or closer to home, and the aim is to provide a safe, supportive environment for those important first steps as a soloist.
This week’s concert included a wide range of instruments and styles, from the voice (Alice, Tom, Shreya, Lily, Laura and Ellie from Y6, Ivy and Zara from Y5, and Bertie from Y3) and the viola (Emily, Y5) to the flute, saxophone, (Sebastian, Y6 and Max Y3) and the ever-popular piano, as well as much else besides. The audience were treated to music by composers as diverse as Pachelbel (Greta, Y4), Mancini (Charlotte, Y6), and Chee-Wan Tan (Julietta, Y3), with folk songs, jazz, and songs from musicals also making an appearance.
We were thrilled to welcome a number of new performers to the stage: congratulations go to Emily (Y5, viola), Uriah (Y5, piano), Lily (Y6, voice) and Ellie (Y6, voice) on making superb debuts at King’s St Alban’s concerts. A few of our regular musicians also did so on new instruments: Charlotte (Y5, guitar), Alice (Y6, guitar) and Max (Y3, J-sax) all branched out into something different, and it was lovely to hear their progress on new instruments.
This concert was a real treat, and a truly lovely way to end the day. Well done to all our performers.
