Olympics: Pupils rise to the challenge

The Olympics 2024 spirit most definitely captured the imaginations of pupils at  King’s St Alban’s as they worked on optional GYM (Grow Your Mind) Homework projects based on the games taking place in Paris this summer.

It has been fantastic to see the many eye-catching posters and fact sheets covering an array of aspects relating to previous and current Olympians and Paralympians. The children have clearly done their research, with many of the designs being extremely detailed; some pupils have even designed our Olympians a new kit for the events themselves.

The children have had lots of fun designing their own Olympic events such as “Dragon Race” and “Frisbee Throw”, and some families got in the spirit and held their own family mini-Olympics! Some children created their own artwork based on the Olympic Rings design, and researched the meaning behind it: clearly a lot of planning and work went into all of these executions.

As ever, the children relished the chance to get creative, creating some excellent Lego models depicting famous Parisian landmarks, where some of the events will be held later this summer. Others recreated some of the more memorable moments from historical Olympic events such as medal ceremonies on the podium, or took their time to create detailed tourist information leaflets about Paris and where the events will be taking place.

Designing and creating Olympic medals, some complete with the Paris Olympic mascot, was a fun-filled activity in which many children chose to take part, as well as extending their knowledge of French vocabulary related to Olympic sporting events.

Well done to all who took part; it is clear that the pupils capitalised on their strengths and expertise to rise to the challenge.
