Reception’s Rainbow Volcanoes: A Colourful Introduction to Chemistry!
Our Reception children had a blast during their latest STEM adventure, creating vibrant mini rainbow volcanoes in a fizzing, bubbling experiment full of excitement and learning!
Wearing their safety goggles with pride, the children eagerly got hands-on with a range of scientific tools and materials, including baking soda, vinegar, food colouring, pipettes, and measuring spoons. As colourful eruptions burst from their mini volcanoes, squeals of delight filled the room!
This playful yet purposeful activity introduced the pupils to early chemistry concepts such as chemical reactions, measurement, and cause and effect. They quickly noticed how changing the quantities of ingredients affected the size and strength of the eruptions, sparking some brilliant scientific thinking and discussion.
STEM experiences like this are vital in the early years, they inspire curiosity, experimentation, and problem-solving, all while building confidence and a love for learning that will grow with them.
Explosive fun with a purpose, well done, Reception!
