A round up of this week’s action on the Rugby pitch for King’s St Alban’s pupils.
U8 Rugby Festival at Winterfold – Tuesday 28th September
Our excited U8 Rugby team travelled to Winterfold House on Tuesday afternoon, not quite sure what to expect. For many of the boys, it was their first ever experience of competitive sports matches against other schools. The foreboding grey sky added to some of the nerves that were being felt. We need not have worried though; the boys put on an impressive display of rugby throughout the afternoon and, once warmed up and with a slice of pizza in their tummies, left with smiles on their faces.
Will B and Tommy showed some good footwork throughout the afternoon with Albert and Brody demonstrating huge improved in their alignment. Mark, Archie and Ben got more involved as the afternoon went on and managed to pass to others, putting them in space. A very productive afternoon all round!
U11 Rugby Tournament at Millfield – Wednesday 29th September
On Wednesday afternoon 20 boys from King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford joined forces to create two strong teams and take the two hour bus journey down to Millfield School’s U11 Rugby Tournament. This was a great opportunity for the Year 6 boys from both schools to work together on and off the pitch.
During the tournament, we came across a variety of schools from across the country including Millfield Prep, All Hallows, Mount Kelly and Kingswood. On the journey down the boys were slightly nervous about the prospect of facing the likes of Millfield but from the first whistle of the first game to the last whistle in the last game, every boy who represented King’s played with outstanding skill and determination; they should be extremely proud of themselves. The rugby on display was absolutely second to none, from outstanding running with ball in hand to brilliant link up play. It was great to see every single boy enjoying themselves for the entirety of the day!
A very well done to all the boys involved on such an enjoyable, rewarding and memorable afternoon at Millfield!
