Spine-Tingling Storytelling in the Undercroft
On Tuesday, our Year 6 children from King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford joined together for an unforgettable Spooky Stories Workshop at King’s Senior School. The day promised creativity, collaboration, and a touch of Halloween magic and it certainly delivered!
The workshop began in the atmospheric Undercroft of Worcester Cathedral, where the flicker of candlelight and the echo of footsteps set the perfect scene for a morning of gothic inspiration. Senior School English teachers captivated the children with dramatic readings of several spine-chilling tales, sparking imaginations and plenty of goosebumps in equal measure.
Afterward, pupils were split into three groups and made their way to the English Department, where they worked alongside Senior School staff to brainstorm eerie vocabulary, plot twists, and character ideas. The sessions were alive with creativity as the children collaborated, shared ideas and developed the building blocks for their own haunting stories.
The day ended with an exciting challenge, each pupil was invited to write their very own spooky short story over the coming weeks. These will then be entered into a special competition, with winners announced after the half-term break.
It was a brilliant day that not only encouraged a love of storytelling but also showcased the imagination and teamwork of our Year 6 pupils. We can’t wait to the chilling tales they produce, we are sure they will send a shiver down the spine!
