U8 & U9 Cricket vs Winterfold
Miss Lake’s U8 cricket team put on a good performance away at Winterfold House School on Tuesday afternoon. Bowling first, Jessica and Bonnie opened the innings with sound accuracy, Jessica delivering powerful straight bowls. Chester and Georgina were focused in the field, with Felix, playing his first match for King’s Hawford, showing real promise by keeping Winterfold’s runs to a minimum. In the second innings, Rupert and Felix formed a strong batting partnership, showing good judgement between the wickets. Alfie and Chester added valuable runs, while Rupert amazed parent spectators with a confident four in the final over, partnering Georgina to close the innings. Bonnie’s consistent bowling earned her Bowler of the Match, and Rupert’s commanding performance on the day secured him Batter of the Match. The game ended in great spirit with handshakes all round. The team now looks ahead with excitement to their final fixture of the season next week.
U10 & U11 Cricket at RGS Springfeild
On Wednesday the U10 & U11 girls took a small break from production rehearsal to travel away to RGS Springfield. They were led by Captain Chloe T who won the toss and set her team up to bowl and field first. Izzy and Ariana opened the bowling keeping it tight with the opposition only scoring a handful of runs. Lily and Jess were next and up against a particularly strong batting pair who despite our accurate bowling got bat on ball and found the boundary on two occasions. Chloe, Charlotte and Olivia W had an excellent couple of overs with Chloe finding her form consistently bowling on the stumps and a near maiden over with 5 dot balls. Olivia was incredibly accurate with her bowling too showing huge progress throughout the season. A special mention to Ariana who took a very near catch in the field, although it was dropped it was a crucial stop for the team denying the opposition a boundary.
The team looked confident going into bat and found the boundary on several occasions. Lily and Jess both scored 4’s whilst Captain Chloe found the boundary twice in one over with some really impressive shots. The girls were by far the better runners between the wickets taking singles at every opportunity they played really nice, energetic and entertaining cricket and should be proud of their efforts this term. Lily was names batter of the match by the opposition and Olivia W was names fielder of the match. Ice lollies were enjoyed for teas after the match and it was a fantastic way to bring the U11 Cricket to a close this term.
U10 & U11 Cricket vs RGS Springfield
On Wednesday afternoon a group of Year 5 and 6 children made the short journey to RGS Springfield to compete in two cricket fixtures. Having lost the toss, Mr Hodgkins’s team were put in to bat first and started in impressive fashion with Barnaby and Freddie managing to score 24 runs off the very first over of the match. Soon, however, the bowling became much more accurate and more challenging to hit and, whilst adding further runs, the Hawford batting line up fell victim to the loss of five wickets. Despite this, Alex, Charles N, Jack, Austin and Olivia G batted well and added a further 44 runs between them. Hawford set about the task of trying to defend their total in a positive way with a highlight being Austin’s superb catch in the third over off the bowling of Freddie. All of the Hawford bowlers worked hard to develop the accuracy and consistency of their deliveries, none more so than Chloe S who was voted as ‘Bowler of the Match’ by our opposition.
U10 & U11 Cricket vs The Downs Malvern College
The Under 11 cricket team from King’s Hawford delivered a commanding performance in their recent fixture against The Downs Malvern College, showcasing both skill and teamwork in what was a memorable encounter.
Batting first, King’s Hawford posted an impressive total of 125 for 3 from their 20 overs. A solid opening partnership between Arthur O and Oliver G laid the foundation, with both players rotating the strike well and punishing loose deliveries. At number three, Millie B played a composed and mature innings, anchoring the middle overs and allowing the team to build momentum. This set the stage for a powerful finish from Henry K and Marnie P, who both retired not out after some aggressive and intelligent stroke play.
With the ball, King’s Hawford were equally impressive. Their bowling attack was consistent and accurate throughout the innings, keeping the pressure firmly on the opposition. A standout performance came from debutant Noah L, who made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with his very first ball. He went on to claim three wickets in total, capping off a dream debut.
This fixture marked a fitting finale to team sports for the Year 6 children at King’s Hawford. Their performance was a testament to the progress they’ve made and the spirit they’ve shown throughout their time representing the school. A fantastic way to round off their cricketing journey at Hawford!
