Sports Highlights Of The Week
Year 3 & 4 House Matches
The U8 and U9 girls travelled to Droitwich Astro for the final time to compete in their termly House Matches.
For the Year Threes, it was the first time experiencing house matches. The girls warmed up in each house and sorted positions themselves. All of the girls played with grit and determination. Everything they had learned over the last twelve weeks was showcased to provide some entertaining 6-minute matches. A highlight of the afternoon, was the comeback from Malvern against Clent, the latter of whom had scored three early goals, but Malvern came back strong to earn themselves two late goals.
A few children really stood out and were commended for their efforts: Persie (Kinver) scored all seven goals for her team, showcasing excellent technique and control; Lily (Clent) worked hard in defence against a dominant Kinver side, clearing the ball out to the wings on several occasions; and Aurelia and Bella (Clent) were a strong partnership in the Clent midfield against Bredon. Maddie and Syrenna were also commended for offering to play one game for the opposition, equally team numbers out. All of the children should be proud of their achievements and have enjoyed a very busy term of hockey! They are now looking forward to Mrs Butt’s Tinsel Tournament next Tuesday!
Year 5 & 6 House Matches
On Monday afternoon, the U10 and U11 girls travelled to Droitwich Astro to play their end of term Hockey house matches.
Teamwork and enthusiasm started right from the off, with each house leading their own warm-up. The four houses played each other in some entertaining 10-minute one-way matches. It was clear that motivation to win the final points for the house totals was at an all-time high. A highly competitive Clent vs. Bredon began proceedings, whilst Malvern faced Kinver in a tight battle. After ten minutes, the girls faced new opposition. Several players were highlighted by staff for their game play: Ruby K, Bella P (both Clent) and Charlotte P (Kinver) were nominated for their undeniable effort and enthusiasm in every match. Abi T showed excellent defensive play for Kinver and Marnie P was a supportive leader for Malvern, showing fantastic sportsmanship and positivity on the field. Malvern were crowned champions for the Autumn Term Hockey house matches! Congratulations to all girls involved. We now look forward to Mrs Butt’s annual tinsel tournament next Monday! Get your reindeers antlers and Santa hats at the ready, girls!
County Hockey Tournament: Success Continues for King’s Hawford U11 Team
The King’s Hawford U11 hockey team has done it again, securing their spot in the Regionals after a stellar performance at the County Hockey Tournament.
The team battled through ice-cold conditions, demonstrating superb skill, teamwork, and resilience despite facing several injuries along the way.
Elizabeth and Pip K showed defensive brilliance with their exceptional defensive play, while Mary’s unbelievable goalkeeping saves proved crucial in keeping the team ahead during key moments. The midfield players created hockey mastery on the pitch—Olivia, Thea, Iza, and Pip P— all were outstanding, providing great passes and strong deliveries into the D that created scoring opportunities throughout all the matches.
The striking, dynamic duo partnership, of Millie and Marnie was nothing short of spectacular. Their hard-hitting goals, quick reactions, and seamless coordination secured vital goals for the team. The results from the day mean that the girls are now heading to Regionals, scheduled for March next year. This remarkable achievement is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship.
Every player should feel incredibly proud of their efforts, not only for representing King’s Hawford with distinction but also for being ambassadors of the wider King’s community. Mrs. Butt and Mrs. Beech are immensely proud of the team and their accomplishments this season.
Congratulations to the U11 team, and best of luck at Regionals!
U11 Rugby vs Winterfold And King’s St Alban’s
The Under 10’s played their last games of the season at Winterfold on Wednesday as King’s Foundation teams, joining with their peers from St Alban’s. Mr Stigant’s side put in their best performance of the season in an attritional, bruising encounter. Both sides played some free flowing rugby, tackles were hard-hitting and the contact area hotly contested. It was excellent to see the boys gel and compete so well in a match that ended with honours even. Mr Brown’s joint team scored a number of quality tries in and end to end fiesta of running rugby. The highlight was watching the boys support each other so well in attack and defence in what was a very tight game.
Swimming Gala
On Thursday, twenty excited Year 3’s and 4’s travelled to the swimming pool at King’s Worcester.
For many of our children, it was the first time they had swam in a 25m pool, let alone in a gala. The event against King’s St. Alban’s was not competitive and was more to boost confidence and understand how swimming galas work. The children completed a short warm-up before getting ready for their events. It was wonderful to see every single child try their best and compete against their King’s St Alban’s counterparts, as well as keeping the morale high by cheering loudly from the poolside. Individual highlights included: Alice H, Emily G, Tanith H, Persie D, Tilly C and Rupert T, who all finished first in their respective races. All of our relay teams also performed well. A special mention must go to Noah P, who not only swam in his own individual and relay races, but also swam up in the Year 4 category to join their relay team for both the freestyle and medley events. The gala finished with Emily G and Cassian W giving three cheers to KSA.
