In both matches, the boys worked hard to develop their skills and team play; with Mr Cook’s team working on their target of passing and moving in possession and Mr Hodgkins’s team continuing to improve their shape in defence. Both groups of boys displayed superb energy levels and determination out of possession in games in which they had to work hard to keep their opponents at bay. Mr Cook’s team also crafted several goalscoring opportunities that were well taken by Charles H and Austin R. Meanwhile, Alex B set the tone in Mr Hodgkins’s team with his improved reading of the game and timely defensive interceptions.

On Wednesday afternoon a group of Year 5 and 6 boys enjoyed two excellent fixtures with a new opponent; Elmley Castle First School. It was brilliant for the boys to meet a different group of children to test their football skills and progress against. Both matches were extremely close with equal amounts of possession throughout the first half. In Mr Hodgkins’s match the Hawford boys worked hard against the impressive physicality of the Elmley side, who had their excellent goalkeeper to thank for producing a string of superb saves to thwart several Hawford chances. The Hawford boys remained patient and continued to show excellent decision making with their passing and movement in attacking areas and eventually got their reward in the second half. The matches were played with a wonderful spirit and we hope to make this fixture a more regular addition to our sporting calendar. The boys have had an excellent first half of the football term and we hope for more success to come after the break.
