Netball

U8 v Winterfold

The U8 girls enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of netball on Tuesday as we travelled away to Winterfold – finally getting to play in wonderfully dry and sunny conditions! Spirits were high, and every player made the most of the opportunity, with all girls gaining plenty of court time and valuable match‑play experience.

Mrs Butt’s Team 1

Mrs Butt’s team burst into action with real confidence. The attacking duo of Olivia P and Poppy B proved unstoppable early on, scoring three impressive goals between them in the first half. In defence, Trixie and Mia marked tightly, limiting Winterfold’s options and forcing several turnovers.

Through the centre court, Gracie and Iona delivered some beautifully timed passes, linking play smoothly into the attacking circle. The team produced several excellent passages of play, showcasing accurate passing and great movement.

It was a brilliant all‑round performance, and the opposition selected Olivia P as Player of the Match – a well‑deserved recognition.

Miss Cook’s Team

Miss Cook’s group demonstrated fantastic teamwork from start to finish. There was some superb mid‑court play, with Elise and Maha making numerous interceptions to regain possession. In defence, Fifi marked her opponent with determination, blocking attacking opportunities.

Up front, Elizabeth and Florence showed excellent movement, creating space and earning several chances at the post.

The Player of the Match was Elizabeth D, praised for her outstanding contribution in every area of the court.

Mrs Butt’s Team 2

Mrs Butt’s second team stepped on court full of enthusiasm and focus. Clancy led confidently from the Centre position, distributing the ball well to attacking teammates Olivia L and Minnow. The trio linked up beautifully, creating several positive attacking moves in the first half. Despite their efforts, the teams were level at half time.

In defence, Marelia and Matilda worked tirelessly, putting pressure on Winterfold’s attackers. After the break, Matilda and Clancy combined cleverly in attack, driving the ball to the post to secure a well‑earned goal.

The opposition awarded Player of the Match to Clancy for her superb contribution and tenacious attitude throughout the game.

All three teams should be incredibly proud of their performances. The girls showed progress, determination, and a real love for the game. With sunshine, strong teamwork, and standout moments across the board, it was a brilliant afternoon of netball for the U8s.

Well done, girls!

U9 v Winterfold

The U9 girls travelled to Winterfold on Tuesday afternoon to play a friendly fixture against the hosts. Each team enjoyed two matches against two Winterfold teams.

Miss Lake’s Team

Miss Lake’s team made a dominant start against the first of two Winterfold teams. Alice and Sadie combined brilliantly to form a seemingly unstoppable shooting duo, with Alice scoring three goals and Sadie adding one in the first half. Emily and Maddie worked tirelessly in midcourt, while Lily and Indie demonstrated their improving defensive marking skills against a speedy opposition. Maddie was deservedly named Player of the Match.

In the second game, play was much more end-to-end, with Winterfold making several interceptions and turning the ball over on a number of occasions. Alice made some superb interceptions, while Emily moved quickly into space in the attacking third and the D to create strong shooting opportunities, converting several attempts. Miss Lake was particularly pleased to see Maddie take on coaching advice, making sharp bursts to break free from her defender to find space. Alice was named Player of the Match for her outstanding all-round performance.

Mrs Halpin’s Team

Mrs Halpin’s team started strongly and worked cohesively, making excellent use of every position on the court. Despite only returning from injury this week, Tanith impressed with her accurate shooting and resilience throughout the game. Winterfold named Rosie as Player of the Match for her superb defensive play and well-timed interceptions.

In the second match, Georgina found space brilliantly and confidently called for the ball. Syrenna worked hard throughout, finding space and clearing the ball effectively from the defensive third. After a steady first half, the girls increased their attacking momentum, with Tanith and Georgina both finding the net. Rosie was once again named Player of the Match for her consistent defensive effort.

Miss Benvie’s Team

Miss Benvie’s team made excellent progress across both of their games. They played with determination against challenging opposition and responded well to coaching feedback, focusing on marking their player rather than following the ball. The girls showed clear growth, working cohesively as a team and increasing the speed and accuracy of their passing as the games progressed.

Bella was awarded Player of the Match in the first game for her positive energy, strong interceptions, and effective communication with her teammates. In the second game, Bonnie received Player of the Match for her ability to find space to receive the ball, mark her opponent effectively, and make several key interceptions.

U10 v Richard Pate

It was a pleasure for King’s Hawford to host Richard Pate School for what we hope will be the first of many home fixtures between the two schools.

Mrs Beech’s team

The U10 netball team of Mrs Beech, delivered a fantastic afternoon of competitive and skilful play. Amelie showed her versatility throughout, making a huge impact in both attack and defence and scoring some fantastic goals. Vivienne controlled the centre court brilliantly, dictating play and keeping the team moving forward with confidence and composure.

In defence, Eleanor and Elise worked superbly together, reading the game well and putting consistent pressure on the opposition. Their teamwork and communication were key to regaining possession.

In the shooting circle, Tilly demonstrated excellent perseverance and super shooting under pressure in the D.

Ellie H was outstanding in centre court, contributing strongly to both attack and defence and consistently intercepting the ball to create new opportunities. Ffion was excellent at forcing the ball onto the wing, creating dynamic passages of play and driving the team forward with energy and determination.

Out of three games played, King’s Hawford secured two impressive wins and narrowly lost one. The loss came against Richard Pate’s U11 team, where the U10s fought hard for every chance, showing great resilience and determination against older opposition.

It was a fantastic afternoon of netball, with tremendous skill, teamwork and resilience on display throughout. Well done to all the players for representing the school so positively. Players of the Match were awarded to Amelie, Vivienne, Ffion and Eleanor for their exceptional performances.

Mrs Halpin’s team

The U10 girls had a fantastic afternoon of netball against Kings Hawford and Richard Pate’s School, playing three different matches against each other. Across all games, the team showed excellent movement around the court and consistently accurate passing, which helped drive the ball into our D and create strong scoring opportunities.

Simi played brilliantly in attack, scoring some lovely goals, while Sylvie also demonstrated confident and accurate shooting. Simi and Sylvie worked particularly well together, making great use of Fliss in the centre to link play smoothly through the court. Defensively, the team was solid throughout. Ellie M and Nina worked strongly together to keep the defence tight and limit the opposition’s chances. Player of the Match awards went to Fliss for Match 1, Simi for Match 2, and Sylvie for Match 3.

Overall, it was a brilliant performance from all the girls – well done to the whole team!

U11 v Solihull Prep

The U11 girls travelled to Solihull Prep School for what was not only an exciting fixture, but also the first meeting between the two schools outside of a tournament setting. The team arrived to a beautifully sunny day – perfect conditions for netball – and spirits were high from the moment they stepped onto the court.

Mrs Butt’s Team

Mrs Butt’s team entered the match full of energy and focus. Although Solihull secured the first centre pass, the Hawford girls immediately made their presence known. With sharp defending and quick reactions, they turned over possession within moments and capitalised instantly, setting the tone for the game.

In the shooting circle, Jasmine and Ariana were unstoppable. Their accuracy was exceptional, sinking confident shots from all areas of the circle, including some stunning long-range efforts. Their composure helped Hawford build momentum early on.

Defensively, Zara and Rosie formed a formidable partnership, allowing Solihull very few opportunities. On the rare occasions the ball entered the defensive third, their tight marking, timely interceptions and decisive footwork shut down any attempt at goal.

Through the centre court, Florrie, Charlotte and Bella moved the ball with real intelligence, showing excellent vision and control. Adelyn and Valerie added fresh dynamism whenever they came on, maintaining possession with pace and purpose. As rotations took place, Izzy and Bella transitioned seamlessly into the shooting roles, continuing the scoring run and keeping Hawford well ahead.

Overall, it was a slick and cohesive team performance, showcasing skill, teamwork and determination across all four quarters. The King’s Hawford girls secured a comprehensive and well-deserved win with contributions from every player on the court.

There were countless standout moments, but Solihull chose Jasmine and Florrie as their joint Players of the Match – a brilliant choice and thoroughly deserved recognition for their consistency, composure and all-round excellence throughout the game.

Miss Lake’s Team

Miss Lake’s team delivered another spirited performance in their match, showing trademark enthusiasm and determination from the first whistle. Solihull’s sharp footwork and speed across court meant the girls had to mark tightly and time their interceptions well.

The first quarter was evenly contested, with Indie and Charlotte P both finding the net. As the game progressed, the King’s Hawford girls found their rhythm. Slick, fast-paced passing down court created excellent set plays, allowing the shooters to gain strong positions in the D before Solihull’s defence could reset. It was pleasing to see the girls take on coaching advice by varying their passes, rather than solely using an overhead pass.

Charlotte P was a standout, scoring the majority of the team’s ten goals, while Indie added valuable contributions. Daisy impressed at WA, and Georgia, Abi, Annie and Robyn were superb in defence. Rosie also stepped on seamlessly following an injury. Indie was deservedly named Player of the Match by Solihull.

Overall, it was a fantastic first fixture between the two schools, and two superb victories for King’s Hawford. Well done, girls!

Football

U10 v Winterfold

Mr Stigant’s U10 football side played in an highly enjoyable, free flowing match against Winterfold on Wednesday.

Once the boys got used to the local conditions, (a somewhat sloping surface), passes began to go to feet and there were some lovely touches in all areas of the pitch. William P made some important saves in the first half from opposition that were accurate when they managed, on occasion, to beat an excellent Rupert T and Charlie P-W defence.

Cassian W controlled the centre of the field well often setting up Tom H and Josh R off on mazey runs with a quality through ball. Bruce W took to his defensive midfield role well.

Three excellently taken goals saw the boys seal a narrow victory.

U10 & U11 Girls v Wrekin Prep School

On Monday afternoon, the King’s Hawford girls’ football teams faced Wrekin Prep School in their second fixtures of the term, producing two very encouraging performances that highlighted the excellent progress being made across the squads.

In both matches, all the girls showed clear improvement in their positional awareness and decision making, both with and without the ball, demonstrating a much better understanding of their roles. Mr Hodgkins’ team played a tight, well-matched and physically competitive game, showing high levels of energy and good skill in possession.

Orri was outstanding in goal, keeping a clean sheet, Jasmine impressed in defence, and Tilly was a constant attacking threat.

Meanwhile, Miss Benvie’s team delivered a superb performance, playing with greater composure on the ball, with Simi particularly impressive and Maysie and Rosie both taking their goals well, rounding off an excellent afternoon of football for King’s Hawford.

U11 Boys v Moor Park

On Wednesday, the King’s Hawford U11 boys’ football team faced Moor Park in a very close and competitive fixture, with the boys working hard throughout and showing great determination.

At times, they played some excellent football, moving the ball well and creating attacking opportunities, with Austin regularly causing problems for the opposition defence.

The highlight of the first half was Will’s outstanding free kick, which struck the crossbar with tremendous power, while Henry L also impressed with his growing game awareness and tenacious tackling.

Will was outstanding throughout the match, leading by example with highly impressive leadership, organisation and communication, helping to drive the team’s performance from start to finish.

Rugby Sevens

On Wednesday, King’s Hawford and King’s St Alban’s to represent King’s at the annual Rugby Sevens tournament hosted by Warwick School.

For many of the boys, this marked their very first experience of Sevens rugby. Unlike the 9-a-side format they are used to, Sevens features just seven players per team, two seven-minute halves, and a fast, free-flowing emphasis on keeping the ball moving and avoiding unnecessary contact. With Sevens rugby being so popular in the senior school, and with KSW’s strong reputation in the sport, this tournament offered an exciting introduction to the distinctive style and demands of Sevens rugby.

The day began with adversity as the team lost Zack from St Alban’s in the warm-up due to a knee injury, followed shortly by the departure of Sam from Hawford after a tackle-related leg injury. As further knocks accumulated, the boys were required to dig even deeper, working tirelessly for one another despite reduced opportunities for rest and rotation. The standard of rugby across the tournament was extremely high, and early on the boys found it challenging to adapt to the preferred flowing style encouraged by Mr Cook; moving the ball wide, keeping it alive, avoiding contact and swinging play from wing to wing.

However, the team rose to the challenge admirably, delivering four valiant performances in the morning group matches. Their determination continued into the afternoon, where they rallied again after lunch and secured a well-earned victory against Warwick School’s B team. Despite visible fatigue, the boys showed exceptional determination and resilience right up to the final match. Though results did not fully reflect their effort, each player gained a far stronger understanding of Sevens rugby, invaluable experience of competing in a high-level rugby environment, and — without even realising it — further developed vital skills in perseverance and teamwork.

Our thanks extend to all parents who came to cheer from the touchline – your support made a real difference on what proved to be a demanding but useful day for the squad. The team now turns its attention to the next Sevens challenge at Hymers College on Tuesday 10th March, where they will be eager to put their newly learned skills into action.
