Tuesday 27th February – U8/U9 Boys Football vs King’s St Alban’s

The King’s Hawford U8/U9 teams continued their programme of football fixtures on Tuesday as they took on King’s St Alban’s. Mr Hodgkins’s team enjoyed a challenging fixture in which they showed great spirit throughout, with plenty of effort and resilience on display against strong opposition. Mr Hodgkins was really pleased with the hard work and determination shown by all the players, who kept going right to the final whistle.

The highlight of the match was a well-taken goal from Theodore, who finished smartly and accurately to reward the team’s efforts. George also deserves special praise for his hard work in midfield, putting in some strong tackles and working tirelessly to support both defence and attack. A positive performance full of commitment and teamwork from the King’s Hawford side.

U11 vs King’s St Alban’s & Winterfold

The King’s Hawford U11 boys took part in a triangular festival on Wednesday, facing King’s St Alban’s and Winterfold in two competitive and well-contested matches. Mr Hodgkins’s team worked tirelessly throughout both games, showing great energy and commitment, and producing some excellent passing football in spells. Against St Alban’s in particular, Hawford enjoyed sustained periods of pressure, peppering the opposition goal and, on another day, could easily have come away with several goals.

There were many positives to take from the afternoon, with highlights including superb defensive skill and organisation from William and Charles at the back. In midfield, Harry and Sam were outstanding, covering the pitch with tireless box-to-box running and linking play effectively. Overall, it was a strong team performance full of effort, teamwork and encouraging signs for the future.

The Under 11B team put in a solid performance against Winterfold on a sunny afternoon at the Cinderella ground. Henry D made some superb point-blank saves and Nicholas and Alex showed great endeavour in the middle of the pitch. Henry L and Louis were a force to be reckoned with, as they charged around the pitch at some velocity, with our opponents unable to contain their power. Jasper consistently managed to find space in the attacking third, and Freddie got us on the scoresheet with a well-taken clinical finish. All represented the school in a determined but sportsmanlike manner.

Swimming

The U8 and U9 swimmers travelled to King’s St Alban’s for their second swimming gala of the school year, and it proved to be a fantastic afternoon of competition against the hosts and RGS The Grange. With plenty of parents cheering from poolside, the atmosphere was brilliant and the children showcased their swimming talents with confidence and determination.

Outstanding individual performances came from Poppy B, Elizabeth D, Maddie P, Rosie L-C, Emily G, William C and Noah P, who all finished first in their events, with several races ending in incredibly close, nail-biting finishes.

Relay events were a particular highlight. The U8 girls’ relay team of Poppy B, Elizabeth D, Iona P and Olivia P secured first place in both the medley and freestyle relays, while the U8 boys’ medley relay team of Jonty D, Elliott E, Archie G and Charles B also claimed first place. The U9 teams performed superbly, with Noah P, William C, Alfie P and Charles B winning the boys’ medley relay, and the U9 girls’ team of Maddie P, Rosie L-C, Alice H and Emily G finishing first in both relay events.

A special mention must go to Isla H and Indie F, who stepped in for absent teammates, and to Archie G and Charles B, who swam up an age group in the U9 relay events. With 126 points, King’s Hawford secured overall victory: a brilliant end to a fantastic afternoon of swimming.

Cross Country

Last week, our children braved the wet and wintery weather to enthusiastically participate in the annual cross country competition.

Each and every child gave it their all, confidently tackling the extremely muddy course with great determination.

There was a huge crowd of supporters cheering them along; thank you so much to all the friends and families who attended.
