Teddy Bears’ Picnic Welcomes New Reception Starters

We were delighted to welcome our new Reception children and their families to our new starters Teddy Bears’ Picnic, a joyful introduction to life at school and a lovely opportunity to begin forming friendships that will blossom in the months ahead.

The event began with an exciting adventure to Forest School, where the children gathered beneath the trees to listen to the heartwarming story Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. The tale of Gerald the giraffe, who learns to embrace his own unique way of dancing, provided a wonderful springboard for the children to reflect on their own special talents. With the support of our staff, the children shared their ideas about what makes each of them unique, celebrating the many different things they are proud of.

Inspired by Gerald’s journey, the children then created their own artistic interpretations of Gerald using a variety of craft materials. These colourful creations will be proudly displayed in the Reception classroom in September, ready to greet the children on their first day and remind them that everyone has something wonderful to offer.

After their time in Forest School, the children rejoined their parents on the Quad for a relaxed and cheerful picnic. With their teddy bears by their side, the children enjoyed snacks, sunshine, and games, getting to know their new classmates through play and laughter.

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic was a wonderful start to what we’re sure will be an exciting and enriching year in Reception. We look forward to welcoming our newest pupils back in September and watching them grow in confidence, curiosity, and creativity.
