Tuesday 25th March
U9/8 Football v King’s Hawford, Winterfold and RGS – Mr Jenkinson
On Tuesday, 25th March, the Year 3 and 4 boys from King’s St. Alban’s travelled to RGS The Grange to participate in their U9 football tournament. The team, consisting of Matthew, Jack, Haadi, Dylan, Monty, Harvey, and Bertie, represented the school proudly in the competition.
The team played three exciting fixtures against Hawford, RGS A, and Winterfold A. The boys started strong, securing a well-deserved win in their first match against Hawford. They showed great determination and teamwork, with notable performances from Matthew, who was active up front, and Haadi, who continued his excellent form in goal.
In the second match, the team faced a very strong RGS A side. Despite their best efforts, King’s St. Alban’s lost, but the boys displayed commendable resilience and sportsmanship. The final fixture against Winterfold A saw the team face another tough match. Unfortunately, a few unlucky moments led to another loss, but the boys maintained their focus and gave their all until the final whistle.
Throughout the afternoon, the defence was solid, with Monty and Dylan working tirelessly to protect their goal. Bertie showed great effort, while Jack and Harvey worked hard in midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively.
The team’s hard work, positive attitude, and teamwork made it an enjoyable afternoon of football, making it a fitting end to their last football fixture of the term. A huge thank you goes out to all the boys for their effort and to the parents and grandparents who came along to support the team.
U9/8 Football v King’s Hawford, Winterfold and RGS – Mr Hooman
On Tuesday afternoon, the U9/8 team participated in a mini festival against Hawford, Winterfold, and RGS. I am incredibly proud of the boys and the progress they have made this term. Their performance in the festival was a testament to their hard work in games and club.
The afternoon started positively with a match against Hawford. Archie M, Charlie, and Hugo were on the score sheet and showcased some brilliant strikes, giving us a strong start. Max C had an outstanding afternoon, proving to be solid at the back by blocking shots, making tackles, and looking for passes out of the KSA half.
The next game against Winterfold was tight, but the boys worked hard to break down the Winterfold defence. Near the end of the game, they managed to break the deadlock and continued their winning streak. Charlie and Archie were again impressive with the ball, demonstrating excellent dribbling skills to beat their opponents. Magson and Hugo were a rock in defence, ensuring the team remained strong.
The final game of the afternoon was against RGS. The boys took turns playing in goal, and this time George stepped up. Within the first few minutes, an RGS player found space and hit a shot towards the KSA goal, but George made a brilliant dive to save it, keeping the team in the game. Jeremiah did well holding up the ball, showing good skill to turn and attack the RGS half, and maintained his position effectively. Despite a valiant effort, we just missed out in this game.
Overall, it was a fabulous afternoon where the boys worked hard and showcased their skills in three excellent games of football, finishing off the football term on a high note.
U9/8 Football v King’s Hawford, Winterfold and RGS – Mr Rowley
In a thrilling U8/9 football tournament at RGS The Grange, our team displayed exceptional teamwork and defensive determination, with Milan C standing out as a rock at the back. Facing RGS The Grange, Hawford, and Winterfold, the boys showed relentless energy and commitment. Archie H and Gabe E stole the spotlight with outstanding hat-tricks, while Akshay V added to the tally with two well-taken goals. The team’s cohesion and fighting spirit were evident throughout, as they battled hard in every match and maintained a strong defensive line. A fantastic effort from everyone involved, showcasing both skill and determination.
U9 Netball Match v Winterfold House – Miss Jordan
On Tuesday afternoon, some of the Year 4 girls had a wonderful afternoon of netball outside on the playground. This week we played Winterfold, and it was clear the improvement the girls have made during the term. This was their last match in Year 4 before some more competitive matches in Year 5. They really enjoyed the games, rotating positions 7 times! We moved up the court well, showcasing our stage 2 defence very well, making our visitors pass sideways a few times. However, Winterfold were better at shooting and scored more goals. Final score 4-11 to Winterfold. Well done to Maddie who was awarded player of the match by the opposition.
U9/8 Netball Match v Winterfold House – Mrs Clark
On Tuesday, our Year 3 and 4 girls enjoyed an exciting afternoon of netball. I was with the two teams playing in the sports hall, where many of the girls experienced their first-ever 5-a-side match. Despite this being a new challenge for some, they performed brilliantly demonstrating great teamwork, remembering their positions, and staying aware of their movement on the court.
This match marked a fantastic end to our fixtures for the term, and it has been amazing to see the progress the girls have made over the past few months. A huge well done to everyone who took part, and special congratulations to Henrietta and Tiegan, who were named ‘Players of the Match’ for their outstanding performances!
Wednesday 26th March
U11 Football Tournament at Slingpool – Mr Hooman
The boys were full of excitement as they made their way down to the Slingpool fields for their final football tournament of the term. With the sun shining and plenty of laughter among teammates, there was a great sense of anticipation for an afternoon of competitive football. Throughout the tournament, our defensive resilience was a real highlight. The boys showed great determination, making strong tackles and working hard to stay in every game. We were particularly unlucky in the matches against Blue Coat and Hereford, where we put in strong performances but narrowly lost by a single goal. Our results in the group stage meant we progressed to the Plate Final, where we faced Wolverhampton Grammar. A slight mistake saw us go 1-0 down early on, but the team never let their heads drop. They continued to battle, showing fantastic spirit, and their efforts were rewarded in the final moments when Will B struck an equaliser right in the final seconds. With the game ending in a draw, the final was decided by penalties. It was inspiring to see so many of the boys stepping up bravely to take a penalty. Unfortunately, the shootout didn’t go our way, but the team can be incredibly proud of their efforts. It was a brilliant afternoon of football, and the progress made throughout the term was evident in the way the boys competed. A great way to finish the term. Well done, boys!
U10/11 Football Tournament at RGS – Mr Jenkinson
On Wednesday, 26th March, eight Year 5 and 6 pupils from King’s St. Alban’s made the short journey to RGS The Grange to take part in their U10/11 football tournament. Thea, Nell, Joshua, Ben D, Max, Zack, Leo, and Ben F represented the school in the tournament, where they were placed in a challenging group alongside RGS A, Warwick, and The Elms.
The team knew that they would need to be at their best to compete against these opponents. The first match saw them face Warwick, and despite a quick early goal from the opposition, the King’s St. Alban’s team demonstrated strong defensive play to prevent any further goals, ultimately losing 1-0 to the eventual finalists.
In their second match, they faced RGS A, another strong team that also progressed all the way to the final. Although St. Alban’s couldn’t secure a win, the team remained determined and gave a solid performance. The team was eager to put in a strong performance for their final group match against The Elms. They created several good opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net, unfortunately, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw. Zack worked hard up front, Leo did his best in goal, and Thea, Nell, and Ben D showed solid defence, taking the ball up the pitch, when possible. Joshua gave his best effort, while Max and Ben F worked hard in midfield to create chances for the team.
Thanks to their superior goal difference, King’s St. Alban’s finished 3rd in the group, earning a spot in the 5th and 6th place playoff match against King’s Hawford. The match started well with Zack scoring an early goal, capitalizing on a well-executed free kick from Max. However, Hawford responded with a goal of their own, and the match ended with both teams finishing in 5th place overall.
After the playoff match, both teams participated in a friendly penalty shootout, providing an opportunity for all players to gain some valuable penalty shootout experience. King’s Hawford won the shootout, but the experience was enjoyed by everyone though!
The effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed by all of the children throughout the afternoon helped make it an enjoyable and memorable experience, and it was a fitting way to conclude their last football fixture of the term.
Although the team didn’t secure a place in the semi/final, the St. Alban’s girls and boys played with great teamwork and determination. Their effort and positive attitude made the tournament an enjoyable experience for everyone. Well done to all of them, and thank you very much to the parents who came along to support the team.
U11 A and B Netball Matches v Winterfold House – Miss Jordan
The girls travelled to Winterfold in the sunshine for their last ever netball matches at KSA. We played 7 a side to get them ready for their games at the senior school. Watching the match, it was clear to see the amazing progression they have made right from the start of their netball journey. Some from Year 3 and some as recently as this year. All girls have improved immensely, and they should be very proud of themselves. There was very little footwork blown and some great interceptions from both the A and B teams. We were slightly stronger on both our teams, so we rotated our positions every quarter (we played 6 quarters in total!). Everyone gave their all in every position, even when a couple of girls, due to injury, were asked to play for the other side. There were some tears when the game had ended as they were sad their netball journey at KSA had come to an end! Final scores were 18-9 A team and 13-8 B team. Well, done Yifei and Flo who were awarded respective players of their matches.
U10 Netball Match v Winterfold House – Mrs Clark
Year 5 Netball Team Ends the Term on a High!
On Wednesday, our Year 5 girls played their final netball fixture of the term against Winterfold House, enjoying a fantastic afternoon of sport under clear, sunny skies. Their enthusiasm and teamwork were evident throughout the match, with every player offering encouragement and support to their teammates.
The game was played in six rotations, allowing the girls to experience different positions on court. We got off to a strong start, dominating the first half and leading 6-1 at halftime. Although the scoring pace slowed in the latter stages, the team remained focused and determined, securing a well-earned 7-2 victory.
Every player put in an excellent performance, demonstrating just how much progress they have made this term. A special congratulations to Millie, who was named Player of the Match for her resilience and determination, especially after bouncing back from two knocks during the game. Well done to all the girls for their hard work and dedication—what a fantastic way to end the term!
