Year 6 Explore WWI History At The Hive
Yesterday afternoon, Year 6 visited The Hive to deepen their studies of World War I.
The trip provided a unique opportunity for the students to explore school log books, newspaper articles, and photographs from the library’s archives, giving them a real sense of what life was like for the people of Worcester during this challenging time in history.

The students discovered that many young boys were withdrawn from school to take on essential jobs normally done by their fathers, such as hop picking, blackberry gathering, and haymaking, to support their families and the community. They read first hand accounts of shortages, including gas and coal, and were surprised to learn that captured German artillery guns were once displayed outside the Guildhall as symbols of the conflict.

This hands-on exploration offered a fascinating insight into the history of Worcester and the significant impact the war had on its residents, sparking thoughtful discussions and a newfound appreciation for the resilience of past generations. The experience was an engaging way to bring their history lessons to life
