Autumn Term Pupil Leadership Team Elected

At the start of the Autumn Term 2021, King’s Hawford elected their first Pupil Leadership Team. Two years later the Pupil Leadership Team is going strong. In assembly today, Mr Butt announced the new team for the Autumn Term.

Before making the appointments, Mr Butt spoke to the School about the purpose of the Pupil Leadership Team and the important part they play in the day-to-day life of the School. All of our Year Six pupils are expected to act as inspirational role models; members of the Pupil Leadership Team are encouraged to go that step further forward and undertake tasks specific to their roles.

Following the same Monitor selection process as is in place in the Senior School, Year Six pupils were invited to submit an application for their chosen role via letter, outlining why they believed they would be superb role models for their fellow pupils. Mr Butt, along with the School’s Staff Leadership Team and the Year Six teachers, reviewed each of the letters submitted. The submissions that Mr Butt and the teachers received were all fabulous, but there were a few that really stood out. As these roles are only held on a termly basis, other students are encouraged to consider applying for the roles in the Spring Term.

Darcy B and Henry W have been appointed as our Heads of School for the Autumn Term. As Heads of School Darcy and Henry will be expected to represent King’s Hawford and the pupil body, assist in the running of the newly formed School Parliament, with a view to chairing meetings, feel confident and comfortable talking to and in front of both adults and pupils, have good organisational and communication skills and take a mature and thoughtful outlook.

Congratulations also go to Holly J, George M, Ava H, Rhys M, Harriet B, Rory G, Bella W and Cameron HT, who have been appointed as School Prefects. Holly and George take up the roles of Academic Prefects,  Harriet and Rory are our new Sport Prefects, Bella and Cameron are our new Performing Arts Prefects and Ava and Rhys are our new Citizenship Prefects.

Our Prefects will be expected to act as role models for other pupils, demonstrating punctuality, good attendance, behaviour and appearance. They will show a willingness to serve, to do jobs when asked and to volunteer in key situations. All Prefects will display a sensible disposition and pleasant nature, enabling good relationships with all member of the school family. A key part of the role will be the ability to lead, to show initiative, and to be level-headed and honest in all situations. Our Prefects will show care and consideration to others around school.

It is hoped that being part of the Leadership Team will give pupils skills that they will be able to take with them beyond King’s Hawford. If members of our Pupil Leadership Team are searching for inspiration as they start their new roles, they could look to Jasmine S, a former King’s Hawford pupil, who is now Head of School at King’s Senior. This is a fine achievement and one of which we are all extremely proud.
