U8/U9 Cricket v King’s St Alban’s
Mrs Butt’s Team
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon for our first cricket fixture of the term, with King’s St Alban’s travelling just up the road to take on a mixed U8 and U9 King’s Hawford side.
Captains Felix and Chester won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers Fifi and Sadie got the innings off to a steady start, putting together a solid 11 runs. Elise and Trixie then made an excellent contribution, adding 15 runs between them, with Trixie striking the first boundary of the game with a well-timed four. Isla and Jessica continued the momentum, also scoring 15 runs, with Jessica finding the boundary for another four. Harris and Samuel showed great awareness and teamwork, accumulating a number of singles through clever running and good communication. Maha and Marelia brought the batting innings to a close, taking the team to an impressive total of 262 runs.
In the field, there was some excellent and accurate bowling from Elise and Sadie, putting the visiting batters under consistent pressure. Fifi, Chester, and Harris all took wickets, helping to keep the opposition’s run rate down. The whole team worked hard in the field with great enthusiasm and teamwork on display.
A special mention goes to Charlie B for taking on the responsibility of scoring the match, and congratulations to Sadie G, who was deservedly nominated Bowler of the Match.
Well done to the entire squad for a tremendous start to the season and a fantastic team performance.
Mr Hodgkins’ Team
The Kings Hawford mixed U8 and U9 cricket teams put in some fantastic performances in this Tuesday afternoon’s fixture against King’s St Alban’s.
Mr Hodgkins’s team showed great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout, supporting one another and working particularly well within their batting pairs. It was clear to see their growing confidence and understanding of the game.
With the bat, there were some excellent contributions across the side. Frank, Martha, William and Yaseen all struck the ball confidently, finding space and putting pressure on the fielders with some well-timed shots. Their positive intent at the crease helped build momentum for the team.
The bowling effort was equally impressive. The children responded brilliantly to feedback, making noticeable improvements in their accuracy as the match went on. Olivia and Lily stood out with excellent spells, consistently challenging the batters and helping to restrict the opposition’s scoring.
A special mention goes to Theodore for his outstanding all-round performance. He contributed strongly in all areas of the game and was deservedly voted Player of the Match by the opposition.
Overall, it was a superb team effort, full of energy, learning, and enjoyment—well done to all involved!
U10/11 Cricket v King’s St Alban’s
Miss Lake’s Team
Miss Lake’s team enjoyed their second fixture of the season with a trip to Slingpool to face King’s St. Alban’s.
After winning the toss, Bella chose to field first, a decision that quickly paid off as Annie, Charlotte P and Maysie delivered impressively accurate bowling, with Bella and Maysie fielding brilliantly to stump their batters out twice in the final over. All the girls contributed fantastically in the field, working together to prevent the ball from travelling beyond the boundary flags.
In the second innings, the team set about chasing a strong total with confidence. The consistent bowling from King’s St. Alban’s allowed our players to settle into their batting, making solid contact and building momentum. Izzy and Maysie made an excellent start, securing half the required runs within the first three overs. Bella stood out for her superb communication, forming effective partnerships with Georgia and Ariana and scoring many runs.
Despite the windy conditions, the girls demonstrated resilience and teamwork in the warm weather, and they should be very proud of their efforts. King’s St. Alban’s awarded their ‘Batter of the Match’ to Bella and ‘Bowler of the Match’ to Maysie, a fitting recognition of their strong performances. Miss Lake would also like to recognise Robyn for supporting with the umpiring of the first innings, due to injury.
Mrs Butt’s Team
King’s Hawford travelled just down the road on Wednesday afternoon to the cricket pitches at Slingpool Walk for a fantastic, sunny afternoon of competitive cricket against our friends from King’s St Alban’s.
King’s St Alban’s won the toss, with captain Adelyn leading her team out to bat first. Adelyn and her opening partner Zara made a tremendous start against some sharp opposition bowling. Despite losing a couple of wickets, the pair laid a solid platform, confidently finding the boundary for four on several occasions.
Henry L and Luca followed with a steady stream of well-run singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over before passing the baton to Abi and Rosie, who added a valuable 20 runs to the total. Alex and Nicholas then demonstrated excellent communication, stealing runs at every opportunity, before Henry D and Luca brought the batting innings to a close. We finished on an impressive total of 286 runs.
After a positive team talk at the changeover, Adelyn and Zara were eager to open the bowling. Supported by plenty of encouragement in the field, they quickly made an impact, claiming three wickets in quick succession. Their accuracy, pace and consistency proved difficult for the opposition to deal with.
The pressure was maintained as Luca and Henry continued the strong bowling spell, each taking a wicket, with Alex B showing sharp reactions in the field to take a well-judged catch off Henry’s bowling. Nicholas, Alex, Abi and Rosie all bowled superbly, conceding very few runs and keeping the opposition firmly in check. To see the match out, Adelyn and Henry returned to the attack, both picking up wickets in the final overs.
Overall, it was a tremendous team performance, with excellent communication with both bat and ball and fantastic support for one another throughout. Adelyn was deservedly named Bowler of the Match, while Luca received Batter of the Match, as chosen by the opposition.
Mrs Butt is very much looking forward to the rest of the season with this talented and committed group of players. Well done team!
Mrs Beech’s Team
On a bright, sunny and cheerful day, Mrs Beech’s Under-10 team, captained by Nina, played an exciting match against King’s St Alban’s.
But this match wasn’t just about runs and wickets – it was all about teamwork, perseverance, and improving skills.
King’s St Alban’s batted first, and our team showed fantastic teamwork right from the start. The bowlers (especially Ffion, Fliss and Connie) focused really hard on their technique, trying to keep their arms straight and aim at the stumps. Even when a few balls didn’t go exactly where they wanted, they didn’t give up – they kept trying, learning, and improving with every delivery. Behind them, the fielders worked together brilliantly, backing each other up, calling loudly, and encouraging one another after every ball.
When it was time to bat, our players showed great determination with a special mention to Fliss and Ffion’s partnership who took complete ownership of their innings. All concentrated on their batting technique, watching the ball closely, using straight bats, and thinking carefully about where to place their shots. Running between the wickets was a real team effort, with lots of calling and support. Even when it was tricky, they kept going, showing real perseverance.
What stood out the most was how Alanna, Fearne, Connie, Nina, Elizabeth, Ellie M, Fliss and Ffion supported each other. There were high-fives, kind words, and lots of encouragement, no matter what happened. Every player kept trying their best, learning new skills, and showing a fantastic team spirit.
It was a brilliant match against King’s St Alban’s, and the whole team should be proud of how they worked together and never gave up.
Batswoman of the match was awarded to Ffion.
Fielder of the match was awarded to Connie.
Mr Cook’s Team
Mr Cook’s XI batted first and made a positive start through Will G and Charles H, who combined sensible aggression with resolute defence to lay a solid platform. The pair rotated the strike well and punished loose deliveries, ensuring momentum in the early overs.
Although a flurry of wickets fell later in the innings, Sam L‑C provided late impetus with a counter‑attacking cameo that lifted the run rate and pushed King’s Hawford to a respectable total of 251.
The defence of the target began in very encouraging fashion, with King’s Hawford claiming a number of early wickets and immediately placing the opposition under pressure. As the innings progressed, the middle overs were characterised by disciplined, tight bowling from Charlotte F and Valerie, whose accuracy increased the squeeze on the batters and restricted scoring opportunities.
Overall, this was an improved team performance and certainly one to build on over the coming weeks. While there were many positives, conceding runs in the field and giving wickets away at key moments remain areas for further development.
