King's Hawford
3 May
A bumper week of celebrations.
Once again, the King’s Hawford community, minus Year Four who are on a school residential trip, came together to celebrate another fabulous week at school, and an extraordinarily busy one at that!
Having reflected upon the week, complete with numerous sports fixtures, school trips, visits and residentials, alongside some outstanding learning in the classroom, Mr Butt introduced a rather special new member of the community who will be joining us very soon…the King’s Prep Schools’ Penguin, who will join the St Richard’s Hospice Waddle of Worcester this summer before returning to King’s Hawford in the Autumn. Our penguin, whose name must not yet be revealed to the general public, has been beautifully painted by our Years Five and Six pupils, all of whom received a round of applause for their hard work.
Moving on, Mr. Butt congratulated Year Three pupils Amelie, Sylvie and Ellie H for achieving five subject merits this week. The Top House point achievers then all received certificates; these included Arthur (Reception), Serefina (Year 1), Alfie (Year 2), Evelyn (Year 3), George (Year 4), Chloe (Year 5) and Teddy (Year 6).
There was an extraordinary number of badges presented this morning, from Modern Foreign Language Awards to Drama, Art and Science and many more; the awards were as follows: receiving a Modern Foreign Languages Badge, Marnie (Year 5), an English Badge, Robyn (Year 6), a Science Badge, Robyn, Jess, Sophie, Chloe and Finn (all Year 5); Robyn also received her Drama Badge whilst Cameron received his Art Badge. Sports Badges were in abundance, with congratulations going to Hattie, Sienna, Jetta, Millie, Olivia, Lyra, Pip, Marnie, Pippa and Mary.
Maths Badges were awarded to Robyn, Harriet, Rory and Holly, whilst the King’s Hawford Badges went to Robyn, Holly, Ava, Teddy, Chloe, James, Harriet, Palmer, George, Isabella, Will and Ava. Finally, the coveted 1 Star Badge went to Robyn, Isabella and Harriet and the even more coveted 2 Star Badge to Robyn.
Mr Butt then presented Poppy, Alice and Alex with certificates for recent karate achievements, before Jess (Year 5) played Tiptoe Tango by Sarah Watts on the flute.
HMAs had a volcanic theme this week, with Year Three taking centre-stage. For their excellent posters and information booklets about Vesuvius, Tilly, Orri, Eleanor, Rupert and Ffion all received an HMA. Also in Year Three, Gabe and Tom received the award for independent work in Maths. Continuing the Year Three streak, Orri, Sylvie, Fearne and Rupert received recognition for the photo frames they made in Art. In other cohorts, George (Year 4) received an award for his creative writing, James (Year 6) an award for his Xanti Tribe writing, and finally Finn, Thomas and Jess (all Year 5) received awards for excellent work in Science.
Pupils then sang a beautiful rendition of Sing Hosanna before Oliver (Year 6) led with a prayer for the week.
Clent House was announced as House Point winners this week; they also take the lead for the Summer Term from last week’s leaders, Bredon. Mr Butt reminded the pupils that, with a good number of weeks left in the Summer Term, it is still “all to play for.”
Mr Butt concluded with a shout out to the Senior Choir, who performed beautifully in Worcester Cathedral for St Richard’s Hospice 40th Anniversary celebrations. Thank you for being such fantastic ambassadors for King’s Hawford; you impressed a 1,000-plus strong audience with your musical ability as well as your exemplary behaviour. This is definitely something for the younger pupils to aspire to in the future.
