A Celebration of Diversity

Dare to be Different Day is a unique and special celebration of diversity where the school community celebrates difference. We have been thinking about the difference that each and every one of us could make to the world we live in. However small our contributions may be, they all have a place in the bigger picture. By Daring to be Different our pupils are able to gain an understanding of their importance in our future. Through our charity and sustainability projects, our pupils are already starting to make a change to the world around them.

This half of term we have focused on diversity and our assemblies this term have encouraged our pupils to look at the world differently. In Wednesday’s assembly we shared the story of Rosa Parkes as an element of our Black History Month learning activities. Pupils from all year groups discussed the events and we took some time to consider what we mean by ‘not fair’.

We have a diverse and eclectic school and we celebrate individuality and diversity. For Dare to be Different Day pupils were asked to wear something that shows their personality, individuality or why they are different. At drop off this morning the car park was a much brighter place thanks to coloured hair, imaginative costumes, and neon make-up – and that was just the staff! Prizes were awarded in the Prep, Prep-Prep and Kindergarten classes for the best costumes – well done to all those who won!

Beyond the excitement of the different costumes we have been thinking about the difference that each and every one of us could make to the world we live in. However small our contributions may be, they all have a place in the bigger picture.

Today really has been a wonderful celebration of diversity and individuality! It has also been an opportunity to raise funds for our school charities – Project Gambia and UNICEF (you can read more about why we support these charities here). A charity bake sale has taken place today and the children have thoroughly enjoyed buying and eating plenty of cake and supporting these important charities.
