An exciting glimpse into the future

Move Up Day is always a very exciting day here at King’s Hawford. Our existing body of pupils are joined each year by a new cohort of children, who join the School from Kindergarten or slightly further afield. Move Up Day allows our current pupils, new pupils and teaching staff a glimpse into the future, as the children meet their new teacher for the forthcoming academic year and spend time getting to know them and their new classmates.

There was an air of excitement in The Barn as Celebration Assembly drew to a close. As Mrs Knight stepped forward clutching next year’s class lists, an excited hush descended upon the school. Kindergarten 2 children were introduced to Miss Lane and Mrs Leatherdale, our Reception teachers, and headed off towards their new classrooms.

Our current Reception children, who all of a sudden seem very grown up, were introduced to their teachers. Mrs Rand and Miss Kingston, who will be guiding next year’s Year One, whisked the children away to their new classrooms. Next up, the current Year Ones were introduced to Mr Marsland and Mr Roberts as their new teachers, before making their way to the top of the Main House.

The existing Year Two children will be making the leap from Pre-Prep to Prep, and will be doing this under the guidance of Miss Lake and Mrs Horrocks. Mrs Horrocks is competing at Henley Regatta this weekend, so Miss Lake was joined by Mrs Hyde as they headed out of The Barn to the Year Three classrooms.

The current Year Three pupils were delighted to learn that Mr Cook and Mr Stigant will be their Year Four teachers and were keen to head to the Stables Classrooms. Mrs Knight and Mr Hodgkins are pairing up to oversee Year Five as Mrs Knight returns to classroom duties. During Moving Up Day, our current Year Six pupils took part in a session with Mrs Worth, Deputy Head of Lower Years at “Big King’s”.

As the pupils headed off to their new classrooms with their new teachers, any nerves that had existed quickly faded. The morning was spent playing games and getting to know one another, and each of the teachers ensured that all of the children were put at ease in their new surroundings. It was wonderful to see new friendships being formed and existing friendships being strengthened.

With the end of term firmly in sight, pupils can begin to look forward to all of the exciting things that lie in wait from September.
