U11 vs Hereford Cathedral School

Mr Hodgkins’ Team

Mr Hodgkins’ King’s Hawford U11 team enjoyed a superb hardball fixture away at Hereford Cathedral School on Wednesday afternoon. It proved to be an extremely close contest throughout, with the result remaining in the balance until the final over of the match.

Batting first, King’s Hawford made excellent use of quick singles and capitalised on the occasional fielding error to add valuable runs to the scoreboard. The highlight of the innings came from Adelyn, who struck two superb leg-side boundaries for four runs. Jack and Freddie also shared an excellent partnership of 14 runs from just two overs, keeping the score ticking over nicely during the middle stages of the innings.

In the field, every member of the team bowled an over and demonstrated the significant progress they have made across the term, delivering some extremely testing balls to the opposition batters. Daisy and Freddie both made an immediate impact by taking wickets with the very first ball of their overs, while Bella claimed a superb wicket with a pace delivery. Abi, Nicholas, Jasper, Henry, Louis, Jack, Luca and Adelyn all bowled with excellent line and length, helping to maintain pressure throughout the innings.

Rosie was truly outstanding in her relatively new role as wicketkeeper and looked extremely accomplished behind the stumps. Later in the innings, she handed the gloves over to Freddie and went on to bowl an excellent over of her own.

At the conclusion of a thrilling match, the opposition selected Jack as Batter of the Match and Rosie as Bowler of the Match. Although the result was only decided in the final over, the fixture was a fantastic advertisement for junior cricket and a wonderful team performance from all involved.

Mrs Butt’s Team

King’s Hawford travelled away to face Hereford Cathedral School, taking on both their opponents and some challenging, changeable weather, with blustery winds and periods of rain testing both sides throughout the match. Despite the conditions, the team showed real resilience and enthusiasm from the outset.

Captains Annie and Charlotte won the toss and made the positive decision to put Hereford into bat first, backing their bowlers and fielders to make an early impact.

What followed was a highly eventful bowling innings, full of energy, determination and excellent teamwork. The bowlers adapted superbly to the conditions, maintaining control and applying consistent pressure. Maysie stood out with a particularly impressive spell, bowling with great accuracy and composure to claim a well-deserved wicket. She was well supported by Ariana, who also took a wicket, while Indie, Austin and Zara each contributed two wickets apiece in a strong all-round bowling effort. Together, they worked tirelessly to restrict Hereford Cathedral School to a total of 280.

In the field, there were several highlights, most notably Annie’s tremendous catch off Robyn’s bowling, a moment of real quality that lifted the whole team. The fielding effort throughout was sharp and committed, with players supporting one another and maintaining focus despite the difficult conditions.

Chasing 280, King’s Hawford approached their batting innings with positivity and intent. Openers Zara and Austin set the tone immediately, playing confidently and finding the boundary with ease, striking three fours between them to give their side a strong and encouraging start. This early momentum was carried on by Henry, Charlotte and Georgia, who showed excellent communication and awareness between the wickets, rotating the strike well and building the innings steadily. Ariana and Alex then added to the total with some well-timed shots, each finding the boundary and ensuring the scoring rate remained high.

It was a fantastic team batting performance, with contributions throughout the order, ultimately leading King’s Hawford to an impressive total of 308. Their efforts secured a well-deserved victory over Hereford Cathedral School, finishing 308–280 in a thoroughly enjoyable and competitive match.

Special recognition was given after the match, with Zara named Bowler of the Match for her excellent contribution with the ball, Austin awarded Batter of the Match for his confident and impactful innings, and Ariana recognised as Fielder of the Match for her all-round performance in the field.

Overall, it was a brilliant display of teamwork, skill and determination from King’s Hawford, made all the more impressive by the challenging conditions.
