Building strong foundations for the future

The beginning of Year 5, as pupils reach the senior end of both King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford, marks the start of their transition to ‘Big King’s’. Building strong foundations for the future, our comprehensive transition programme will see pupils regularly visit King’s Worcester for numerous events and taster sessions. The first of these transitions, a sports masterclass, took place last Friday afternoon.

The Year 5 cohorts from both Prep Schools enjoyed several fantastic sporting masterclasses, capitalising on King’s Worcester’s outstanding sporting facilities and specialist sports coaches. The girls came together for a hockey session whilst the boys enjoyed a session of rugby . The pupils demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm and a real desire to learn and develop. They worked on a variety of different skills and techniques, listening intently to their coaches. It was brilliant for the two prep school teams to work with their future team-mates and for the Senior School teachers to get to know the children, seeing with their own eyes the skill and enthusiasm coming up through the ranks.

Commenting on the afternoon, a group of Year 5 pupils from King’s St Alban’s said, “It’s been such fun getting to know some of the teachers from ‘Big King’s’ and chatting to our friends at King’s Hawford, and of course learning some skills and techniques for rugby. Can’t wait to see everyone again soon!” The girls were equally enthusiastic following their hockey masterclass, one King’s Hawford concluding, “I love playing hockey at King’s Hawford but it was so much fun getting a taste of what hockey lessons will be like at ‘Big King’s’ – I can’t wait!”

Whilst it was great to see the pupils begin to build stronger relationships with the Senior School staff, the event also enabled pupils to foster new friendships with their counterparts across the King’s Foundation. We are all looking forward to the next Year 5 sports clinic later this year and to cementing foundations for the future Thank you to Mr Mason, Mr Greenall, Mrs Miller-Symonds and Miss Preece for the sessions.
