Challenge Cup-Winning Footballers Return to King’s Hawford

Hawford children received a motivational boost in assembly this morning as six Old Hawfordians, now senior footballers at Big King’s, returned to our school following their outstanding Challenge Cup victory on Tuesday.

The visiting players, who also won the ISFA tournament at Clifton College seven years ago, spoke to all the children in assembly, as well to our footballers ahead of their own fixture at the very same ISFA tournament this afternoon.

The team brought along their Challenge Cup trophy, and Mr Butt brought their ISFA trophy along to show everyone.  We also found out that many of the boys also starred in Grease during their time at Hawford, which also happens to be this year’s Year 5 and 6 production!

Captain Barnaby reflected on their Challenge Cup win, saying: “We started well, with an early goal and strong defence. During the second half, Leo won a penalty which his brother Toby slotted in to take us 2-0 ahead.”

Leo added that it was great to see his brother score after practising penalties all year.

Looking back on their own ISFA experience, Barnaby recalled them putting their all into it, with the final going to extra time before Leo scored the golden goal that sent them through.

Mr Hodgkins praised the group as a “great team who all worked really hard,” and the visit ended with Will leading a rousing three cheers for King’s football.
