Challenge showcases pupils’ entrepreneurial spirit

This year’s Tenner Challenge has come to an end. Over the past seven weeks, teams of pupils in Years 5 and 6 have shown off their entrepreneurial spirit with a series of money-making ventures. The whole school was excited to see the Challenge return after the brilliant success of the initiative in 2022. Pupils were challenged with turning an initial £10 investment into as much money as they could. The Tenner Challenge plays a large part in our school fundraising efforts.

As part of the challenge, pupils were invited to advertise their products to the School during assemblies or through posters displayed around campus. On select days, our budding entrepreneurs were able to set up shop and sell directly to pupils and staff members.

This year we have seen a range of different money-making ideas in action. Products on sale have included physical challenges, crafts and homemade edible delights. Pupils have taken part in keepie-uppie contests and cartwheel challenges. There have been some beautifully crafted items on sale, including braided bands and cushions fashioned from old uniform.

Each year a number of teams stand out for their imaginative ideas and business acumen and this year was no exception. George M and Teddy C came up with the concept of ‘Kindness Rocks’. Inspired by the School’s Growth Mindset words and our Random Acts of Kindness Week, the boys created a stand out brand. Over the seven weeks they sold a range of different rocks, gems and marshmallows, all decorated with googly eyes. These were a hit with the younger pupils. Through their venture the team made a grand total of £404.07 and were crowned Top Team!

The award for Best Product was presented to Sam M, Rory G and Cameron HT. Recycling old uniform into cushions tied in wonderfully with our green school objectives. Max D and Edith D showed their creative flair by producing an excellent advert that was shown on the big screen in The Barn. For this they won the award for the Most Professional Advert.

Barnaby B was commended for his wonderful crafty Easter Bunnies. These were a clever but simple idea and proved very popular. The award for Best Pop Up Shop went to Robyn G. Staff were impressed with her colourful signage.

Well done to all of our teams; we have really enjoyed watching the children learn through this experience. Through their brilliant efforts we have raised £1,704 to share between our school charities, which is a substantial increase on last year’s total.
