Cricket Round Up

Mrs Butt’s Team

Mrs Butt’s U11 Cricket team hosted King’s St Alban’s on the lower field for the opening match of the season.

Barnaby led the team out as Captain; he won the toss and opted to put KSA into bowl first.

Freddie opened the bowling with a fantastic over giving away just 2 runs and taking the only wicket of the game. The team looked good in the field with Elizabeth and Olivia G with near catches and Barnaby taking a fantastic catch at Mid On off Lily’s bowling.

The team went into bat chasing a score of 268. Freddie and Barnaby contributed significantly to the score hitting several fours, culminating in Barnaby hitting a six off his final ball straight over the boundary. Every member of the team contributed to a very successful score line and gained valuable game play experience. The opposition awarded the batting player to Barnaby, the bowling player to Olivia G and the fielding player to Jude. Overall, it was a fantastic team performance.

Miss Lake’s Team

Miss Lake’s girls cricket team put in a fantastic all-round performance in their first match of the season.  There was excellent communication between the batting pairs, with the girls making smart decisions on whether to run or hold back. They confidently applied Tuesday’s club coaching – stepping in to strike the ball – which led to some impressive shots. Batter of the Match went to Abi, who hit two fours in her over.  When fielding, the team showed great progress with accurate bowling. They listened and applied Mr Brown’s in-game coaching. Ariana, Charlotte and Abi bowled with confidence, while Robyn stood out for her consistent accuracy and superb fielding skills, earning her the title of bowler of the match, selected by King’s St. Alban’s.

 Mrs Beech’s Team

Mrs Beech’s Year 5/6 cricket team captained by Sophie, had a thrilling and exciting first match this week against King’s St Alban’s.

It was a close contest filled with confident moments of play and lots of support for each other!

During our batting, Noah and Thomas played some confident shots and scored several quick runs, and Mary hit the only six of the match for the home team, sending the ball flying high over the boundary!

When we took to the field the bowlers were on fire! Thomas bowled with confidence and style and Nayel took 2 wickets, while Mary kept her cool and made some excellent fielding decisions along with Ben.

It was a fantastic match, and everyone played with super teamwork.

Mr Hodgkins’s Team

On Wednesday afternoon Mr Hodgkins’s U10 and U11 cricket team were involved in an epic first match of the season with King’s St Alban’s. Fielding first, the Hawford team put on an impressive display of economical bowling, the highlights of which included wickets for Freddie W, Johannes K, Will G and a first ball wicket for George PW as well as two excellent overs from Florrie W and Jasmine O. What followed in the second innings was a dramatic run chase that could have easily gone either way. Iza MP hit the shot of the game with a classy drive through the covers and, with one ball to go, the game was still in the balance and was, in the end, decided by just one run. It was a great afternoon of cricket and a match that couldn’t have been more evenly contested.

U8 Cricket

Miss Lake’s U8 team played their first cricket match with great enthusiasm and teamwork. Sadie won the toss and chose to bat first. King’s St. Alban’s bowled well, giving our team plenty of opportunities to strike the ball. Jessica’s increasing confidence was shown in her shots, which helped her and Georgina score some early runs. Alfie impressed with powerful striking of the ball, including two fours, while pairing with Chester. Bonnie and Maddie showed excellent communication, making sensible decisions when running between the wickets. After the first innings, it was our turn to field. The children listened closely to Miss Lake’s coaching and began to show much improved, accurate bowling. It was a brilliant first match for the children which they all seemingly enjoyed. After the match, King’s St. Alban’s selected Maddie and Bonnie as our players of the match for their strong performances in bowling and batting.

Mrs Beech Team

What a fantastic way to start the cricket season! Mrs Beech’s Year 4 team, captained by Fearne, played their first match against King’s St Alban’s and showed great teamwork and sportsmanship.

King’s Hawford took to the field first, eager and enthusiastic. The team bowled brilliantly. Evelyn and Sophia both took wickets with Sophia taking 2 wickets in one over, and Ffion made some incredible stops that often saved 4 runs!

Our team went into bat and quickly started to score runs. The pairing of Connie and Sophia worked well with both making decisive calls and getting quick runs on the score board. Special mention to Ellie, who hit an amazing four boundaries, and Fearne, who stayed calm under pressure and scored two brilliant sixes.

Well done to everyone for a great team effort and a super first match!

Mr Hodgkins’s Team

On Tuesday afternoon the Year 3 children played host to their peers from King’s St Alban’s in what was their first ever cricket match representing the school. Mr Hodgkins’s team enjoyed a super match in which they developed their game understanding and decision making both whilst batting and in the field. Batting first, the stars of the innings were Alice H and Tanith H who posted an impressive 38 runs off their three overs. The highlight of the second innings was a superb catch at square leg from Yaseen A as well as an impressive spell of bowling from Emily G.

Mrs Butt’s Team

Mrs Butt’s Team was lead out for the first game of the season by Aurelia A and Charlie PW as joint captains who won the toss and chose to field first.
The team put in a tremendous performance with some notable moments in the field including a catch from Sylvie and two catches each for Aurelia and Elise. Mrs Butt was particularly impressed with the consistent bowling which included a Maiden over for Amelie, wickets by Alana, Sylvie and Amelie and two wickets each for Elise and Isaac.
At the end of the innings King’s St Alban’s had laid down a good score to chase and the King’s Hawford team set out to bat. Several of the team found the boundary with Aurelia hitting a four, Sylvie and Charlie each hitting two fours and Charlie finishing off with a tremendous shot straight over the boundary for six. Mrs Butt was particularly impressed with Gabe’s significant contribution to the whole team effort in every area of play and the players of the match as nominated by the opposition were Aurelia for her fielding, Isaac for his bowling and Charlie for his Batting.
