Fun, adventure and overnight camp at King’s Hawford!
Outdoor adventure and learning outside the classroom comes as standard at King’s Hawford and therefore it is no surprise that despite only being three weeks into the new academic year, the entire Year 4 and Year 6 cohorts have already completed an overnight camping experience.
Taking place on various evenings over the last two weeks, Mrs Redman, who heads up Learning Outside the Classroom at King’s Hawford, has welcomed two groups of Year 4 pupils and one Year 6 group for an overnight camp in tents within the school grounds. But not only did pupils have the excitement of sleeping under canvas with their friends, they were also kept busy with a host of different team building games, testing their team working skills to the limit with a number of tricky challenges before paddling up the canal (and back again) from King’s Hawford’s very own launch pontoon. As it was certainly time for refuelling, the children then enjoyed toasting delicious marshmallows around a campfire. It is no wonder the children all slept like logs, having expended all that energy putting their all into each and every task they undertook.
Being a little more grown up, the Year 6 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to cook their own dinner on camping stoves as part of their overnight camp experience; this was a first for many of them. The results were impressive and more importantly, edible!
These camp-outs are a great opportunity for the children to get to know their new classmates and form teachers, try new things, and most importantly, have fun. As the academic year progresses there will be plenty of opportunities for all of the pupils at King’s Hawford to have fun and learn outside the classroom, both on our beautiful campus as well as further afield, with numerous trips and excursions including some residential ones – watch this space!
