King's Hawford
17 May
Hard work continues as the half-term break approaches!
We enjoyed a slightly lighter Celebration Assembly today on account of the fact that the King’s Hawford Senior Choir were taking part in the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts. Having returned as champions last year, we wished them the best of luck, certain that they would try their very hardest.
Year Two had an abundance of Five Subject Merit awards which included Isla H, Tanith, Indie, Georgia and Alex S-C; Mr Butt looked forward to celebrating with them at break-time. Joining the Year Two pupils for a tasty treat was Chaya from Year Three. Well done everyone.
Moving on to Top House Point Achievers of the week, Mr Butt was delighted to award Florence H from Reception, Archie (Year 1), Tanith (Year 2), Ellie M (Year 3), Austin (Year 4) with their certificates. We congratulated Olivia G (Year 5) and Sam McV (Year 6) in their absence.
Mr Butt moved on to awarding a number of King’s Hawford badges; these included Fellowship Badges for Yaseen, Jessica and Sadie, all pupils in Year Two. Alanna in Year Three also received her Times Tables Badge: congratulations everyone! There was just one TT Rockstar this week, Ellie M (Year 3) who reached “Unsigned Act” status.
Year Three pupils have been hard at work this week learning all about forces and magnets, with an array of colourful results in the form of some outstanding posters receiving an HMA. Ellie H and Sylvie teamed up to explain how shoes on the floor cause friction to stop us falling over, whilst Ellie M informed us of the different types of magnets. A colourful creation from Georgia informed the audience of what is and what isn’t attracted to a magnet, with an equally colourful creation being presented by Alanna. Bruce and Rupert impressed with the mechanisms they managed to incorporate into their posters whilst Amelie and Elise explained gravity! Finally, Elizabeth was awarded an HMA for her poster explaining push and pull magnetism.
Meanwhile, in Year Two they have been learning all about habitats and Mr Butt enjoyed quizzing the children on what they had learnt, receiving some impressive answers. In lesson time, the children had been creating their own habitats in old shoe boxes, and Chester and Ellis were awarded an HMA for their creations. Ellis chose to create the habitat of a cockroach complete with a jungle theme, waterfall and pond, whilst Chester’s habitat was for a slightly larger creature, a chicken!
Mr Butt went on to explain that at King’s Hawford HMAs were not only presented for outstanding work but also for personal achievements, and this week one particular pupil had a massive personal achievement. Theodore (Reception) would not have dreamed of touching the swimming pool with his big toe let alone jumping in and touching the bottom in September, but this week he did just that. What an amazing achievement Theodore; we are all so proud of you!
The slightly small congregation then sang Give Me Oil in My Lamp, ably accompanied by Mrs Butt on the piano, before Ismail (Year 6) read a beautiful prayer, reminding us all of the special times together.
To round off the assembly, Mr Butt revealed the highly anticipated current tally of house points: Bredon had taken the lead by only four points! It’s all still to play for as we enter the last week of the first half of the Summer Term.
