House Matches encourage friendly rivalry
Over the past week our Year 3 and 4 pupils have been going head to head in our Inter House sporting competitions. The boys enjoyed a series of Inter House football matches whilst the girls took part in Inter House Netball. Later in the week they joined forces in the pool. Excitement reached fever pitch during the Inter House Swimming Competition, with cheering being heard across the school grounds.
Our House system is a large part of our pastoral system and really helps our pupils to gain a sense of belonging. Pupils pull together during House fixtures, which provide a great opportunity for the children to mix with their peers from other year groups.
For this week’s Year 3 and Year 4 House matches pupils competed in mixed teams. It was fantastic to see how quickly the children gelled together as teams on both the football pitches and the netball courts. As always, it was wonderful to see parents on the side-lines, cheering on the children. It really adds to the atmosphere to have supporters present.
The netball matches used the format that Year 3 have been following, where the children play on a full court, shooting into the nets without being restricted to set positions. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing with this freedom, but had to be reminded to space out and not to crowd the ball.
The Inter House Swimming Competition was a very noisy affair, with plenty of cheering. Pupils sat in their House groups and took part in a series of relays. In their Houses they each had to swim a length. Each race focused on a different swimming stroke.
This year Malvern were victorious in both the swimming and the football competitions. Kinver took the honours in the netball. Well done to all of the children who took part. It has been a busy week for our Year 3 and 4 pupils, juggling production commitments and Inter House sports matches alongside their school work. They have impressed all of the teachers with their brilliant “can-do” attitude all week.
Next week Year 5 and 6 will take part in the final Inter House matches of the term.
