King's Hawford
24 November
If you can dream it, you can do it
Charity Day always proves extremely popular with our pupils and this year’s was no different. The theme for this year’s Charity Day was inspired by 100 years of Disney, and the whole school community was encouraged to come to school dressed in home clothes or Disney-inspired clothing! Once again, pupils and staff went above and beyond and the School was filled with princesses, superheroes and mickey mouse ears!
Mr Stigant once again dreamed up an array of themed activities designed to raise funds for our three school charities: Project Gambia, Midlands Air Ambulance and Cool Earth. Throughout the school day three main events took place: The Mary Poppins Derby, Captain Hook’s Walk the Plank and a Treasure Hunt!
At various points throughout the day pupils could donate £1 to have a go at the King’s Hawford Treasure Hunt. A majority of pupils took up the challenge and enjoyed testing their skills to uncover the treasure.
During the course of morning pupils used their money to vote for teachers taking part in the very first Mary Poppins Derby. The amount of donations each staff member received was used to calculate a head start in the Derby. Mrs Butt, Mrs Hughes, Mrs Leatherdale, Mrs Rand, Mr Cook and Mr Roberts and their trusty steeds lined up on the start line. Mrs Butt was given an impressive lead thanks to pupil votes.
The race was actually run twice in the end due to some rule breaking in the initial race. The second race was an even tighter affair with Mr Roberts crossing the line first, unfortunately he was disqualified and runner up Miss Layton walked away as the winner of our first first race!
Throughout the rest of the morning pupils had the opportunity to vote for which member of staff they wanted to see Walk the Plank! A overwhelming number of votes were cast and it was very anxious group that huddled side of pool to await the results. As it turns out the results made little difference as ALL members of staff were made the Walk the Plank by Mr Roberts. The crowd of pupils assembled were not only able to witness the dunking of a number of staff members but they were also treated to a wide range of pirate jokes!
Mrs Adams, Miss Lake, Miss Layton, Mr Stignant, Mrs Beech, Miss Odam and Mr Coopey Palmer braved the icy depths of the King’s Hawford pool in the name of charity. Even Captain Hook himself was encouraged to go overboard.
It is on days like this that you realise what an incredibly special community we have here at King’s Hawford. At the last count the amount of money raised solely from our Charity Day had hit a record breaking £2,700. Thank you to everyone that made this possible!
