King’s Hawford is full of kindness

This week has been Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week here at King’s Hawford and the focus within our school community has been spreading kindness all around.

On Monday Mr Stigant lead an assembly on the importance of being kind to ourselves as well as others. During the assembly the children were encouraged to discuss the colours of kindness. It was unanimously decided that kindness was best depicted by bright, happy colours like rainbows.

Following the assembly, the RAK Committee came up with the idea of writing kindness messages on the floor around school. They reasoned that when people are sad they tend to walk around with their heads down and hope that, by taking positive messages from the floor, people will be encouraged to look up and see the blue sky, the sun and rainbows! The grounds have been awash with bright positive messages and affirmations all week long.
As part of RAK Week each year group have come up with wonderful ways of spreading kindness amongst our whole school community. Earlier in the week, Year 6  decorated some kindness stones and these have also been scattered around the school grounds. The younger pupils have thoroughly enjoyed discovering the stones around the site. Children in Year 3 have thanked support staff with gifts of daffodils and thank you messages. Pre-Prep have been collecting items for the Droitwich Food Bank and representatives from the charity visited school to talk to the children about the amazing work the Food Bank does. Reception visited Fernhill Care Home to spread kindness amongst the home’s residents; it was wonderful to see our pupils brightening up the day for the elderly residents of the care home.

Duvet Day / Random Acts of Kindness Day

The week concluded with Duvet Day to coincide with Random Acts of Kindness Day and the end of Spring Half Term. As in previous years, staff and pupils have come to school in their pyjamas or comfy attire. We have seen plenty of PJs, dressing gowns, onesies and oodies!
On Friday morning all pupils took part in some mindful activities to start the day. Our Prep pupils took part in a mindfulness session in The Barn that included a range of quiet and reflective activities ranging from taekwondo to yoga. The Pre-Prep pupils headed out to the hard surface, where they enjoyed a dance session led by Miss Lusted. The two groups then swapped. These sessions were a great start to the day; the mindfulness sessions helped pupils enjoy some quiet zen time and the dance sessions left the children (and staff) energised!
During RAOK we have been raising funds for the DEC’s Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal after the children voted unanimously in assembly to divert funds to this very worthwhile cause. All monies raised from the Valentine’s Cinema Evening and Duvet Day will be donated to DEC.
