King’s Hawford Wins Swimming Gala
On Thursday afternoon, thirty pupils from Years 5 and 6 represented King’s Hawford in their final swimming gala of the academic year, hosted by King’s St. Alban’s. Facing strong competition from our sister school and RGS The Grange, the team rose to the occasion, continuing their unbeaten streak in this local, triangular fixture this year.
The standard of swimming was exceptionally high across all three schools, making the team’s achievements even more impressive. Standout individual performances came from Ruby (Year 5), and Iza, Olivia G, Pippa P, Charles C, Harry, and Noah (Year 6) who all clinched first place in their events. The relay teams were equally dominant, with the U10 girls medley and freestyle team (Zara, Ruby, Maysie, Daisy) and the U11 boys (Charles C, James, Noah, Harry) and U11 girls teams (Iza M-P, Olivia G, Pippa P, Thea E – medley; Olivia G, Thea E, Millie B, Pippa P – freestyle) all securing first-place finishes.
A special mention goes to Daisy E and Charlotte F in Year 5, who stepped up to compete in the U11 category following a last-minute withdrawal. Daisy showed remarkable resilience, swimming multiple races with minimal rest.
Both King’s Hawford teams finished top in their respective groupings, capping off a season of excellent swimming.
