Pre-Prep Nativities kick off festivities

On Thursday 1st December, our Pre-Prep and Kindergarten 2 children kicked off the Christmas season in style with not one but two Nativities! Children from Reception and Kindergarten 2 performed A King is Born whilst children from Years 1 and 2 performed The Boogie Woogie Nativity.

A King is Born

This simple but effective nativity was perfect for the age range as it has a simple but humorous script and seven easy to learn songs that have been on loop in Kindergarten since October!

Mrs Hooper, along with an all-girl cast of Reception children, helped to narrate the story of the first Christmas.  To bring the story to life further, Mary and Joseph were led to Bethlehem by a real-life donkey (well, actually a pony, but dressed up as a donkey!)  This made the Nativity even more magical.

KG2 sang their hearts out and performed dances to four of the songs, with costumes ranging from children in pjs to villagers, stars, kings and camels.  Reception acted out the story beautifully, showing the progression from Kindergarten as we ask the Reception children to stand on stage in the limelight and say their words.  Along the journey, we met Caesar and his group of census-takers, angels, shepherds and kings on a journey to follow the star and arrive at the stable for the birth of the baby Jesus.

All children in the Early Years were simply amazing; all practitioners and teachers are super proud of their efforts, and it was a magical experience that we were so pleased to show off to parents and family members.  Miss Kingston says a massive thank you to each and every child.

Boogie Woogie Nativity

Year 2 took the leading roles in this fun-filled take on the traditional Nativity story about a very talented animal band whose concert preparations and performance are interrupted by the arrival of Baby Jesus. Year 2 were expertly supported by the children from Year 1, who all got the chance to show off their dance moves and angelic voices. The Nativity managed to shoehorn in a number of 70s disco classics!

All of those with speaking roles spoke clearly and confidently, impressing their teachers and the audience of parents and grandparents. Not only did the whole cast perfect their lines, dance moves and songs, they also managed to sign along to many of the songs, making this nativity truly inclusive!

A special thank you must also go to the teachers, who make performances like this possible: Mrs Hughes, Mr Roberts, Mr Marsland, Mrs Rand, Miss Lake, Mrs Leatherdale, Miss Lane and Miss Kingston. Finally, a huge thank you to our wonderfully supportive parents, who have helped with costumes and practising lines and dance routines at home. This year’s nativities truly were a team effort.
