Pre-Prep take learning beyond the classroom
Reception’s Think Tank Fun
On Tuesday, Reception went on a very exciting adventure. Travelling initially on the school minibuses, the children headed to Droitwich railway station, where they hopped aboard a train bound for Birmingham. On arrival in the Second City, the children made the short journey to Think Tank. They spent time in The Planetarium with Colin, watching a star show and demonstrating their excellent knowledge of the solar system, which was followed by some time outside in the Spring sunshine, exploring the Science Garden. During the trip, Reception investigated forces, water pressure and even took turns in a giant hamster wheel. Next, they headed to Mini Brum, a huge indoor play area set up like the streets of Birmingham. Children role played as builders, hairdressers, and doctors.
The excitement of this trip was definitely enhanced by the train journey to and from Droitwich Station. This experience was the perfect introduction to Reception’s next topic of transport and travel, which will begin after the Easter break.
Year 1’s Safari Adventure
Year 1 went off to West Midlands Safari Park on Friday 15th March to consolidate their learning about Africa. We set off in minibuses around the safari park in search of the ‘Big Five’ – we saw the ‘Big Four’ as unfortunately the cheetahs were in hiding! After this we met with 2 of the rangers who spoke to us about the animals whilst we did a walking safari where we could see lions a little closer (thankfully behind very, very thick safety glass!) this is a lovely new addition to the safari park, and the children loved being able to see the animals up close. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and were superbly behaved and a real credit to the school. Seeing the animals that we had been learning about has really been a great ending to our ‘Awesome Africa’ topic this term.
Year 2’s Castle Capers
On Thursday a very excited group of Year 2 pupils skipped down Lock Lane to board a school coach bound for Warwick Castle. This trip heralds the end of Year 2’s Dungeons and Dragons topic. Accompanied by Mr Roberts, Mr Marsland and Mrs Goodman the group were keen to build on their knowledge and enjoy a day outside of the classroom.
During their visit pupils explored the King Makers museum, braved the underground Gaol and marvelled at the splendor of the Great Hall . They watched the Bowman Show and the Birds of Prey display in astonishment and awe. The group even scaled the top of the battlements and Guy’s Tower. Lunch was enjoyed at the Mill House and the day finished with the children burning off any left over energy in the Zog Land Park.
The children thoroughly enjoyed putting their topic learning into practice and reinforcing their classroom based learning. The children impressed their teachers with their excellent knowledge, brilliant manners and thirst for knowledge.
