King's Hawford

Pupils build on last week’s success.

U9 Boys Football

On Tuesday afternoon the Year 4 boys played a mini festival of football alongside The Downs, Winterfold and Abberley. The boys were absolutely fantastic all afternoon, really stepping up their performances following last week’s fixtures. It was impressive to see the high levels of energy as well as the excellent decision making in possession and a range of passing and moving in attack, often leading to goals. We were especially impressed with Jude R and James B in attack and a solid defensive display from Freddie B.

U11 Boys Football

Following last week’s excellent performances at the Matty Thacker tournament, the U11 boys travelled to RGS The Grange for a highly competitive fixture this Wednesday. It was an evenly matched and very entertaining game that was close throughout. Both sides defended very well, demonstrating commitment and desire to keep their opponents out. Despite knocking on the door with long range shots and several dangerous corners, neither team was able to make the breakthrough and the match finished in a 0-0 draw. Much of this was down to an outstanding display in goal from Oliver B and the high energy press and consistent tackling of Hudson M, both of whom were awarded player of the match.

Year 6 Netball Training Match V RGS The Grange

On a very cold and fog bound netball court, King’s Hawford hosted RGS in a training match where both teams worked on improving netball technique and game play. It was the chance to put into practice our set plays from the centre pass and work on sending the ball straight to the shooting pair. With the team constantly rotating positions, due to Bee Ball rules, we were able to work on our shooting and maintaining pressure in defence.  With some strong passing, the game flowed at a fast pace and pressure was kept up by both teams. Goals were scored and tactics were put into play with quick sideline passes and fast rebound reactions. With the light fading rapidly, we thanked RGS for the opportunity to play a training match and they awarded player to Issie, Isla and Blythe.

Year 5 & 6 Netball V The Downs (Malvern)

On a damp Wednesday afternoon, King’s Hawford set off to Malvern to play The Downs with three, mixed Year 5 and 6 teams.  Teams were constantly changing due to the different rotations, but we settled into a good rhythm of play and showed strength in attacking and defensive play. King’s Hawford worked hard and picked up a lot of interceptions in defence and learnt, when in attack, that we needed to be more patient with the ball and cut out unforced errors. All the girls played with confidence and what was pleasing for the coaches to see, was how the teams adapted relatively quickly to different styles of play, landing without errors, and waiting for players to make their move into space. The team showed excellent perseverance and kept fighting for the ball until the final whistles went. Well played girls, we have plenty to work on in training but we are showing great progress so early on in the season. Players of the match were awarded to Erin, Arya and Holly.

U10 & U11 Swimming Gala Report

On Thursday, the U10 and U11 swimmers travelled to Blue Coat to compete in a gala against the host school. This gala allowed Mr Hodgkins and Miss Lake to see the swimmers competing in slightly different events than they have done previously. The King’s Hawford pupils put in a great effort in all of their relay and individual races. At this gala, the U11s swam 50m for their individual events, which for some swimmers was the first time they had competed at this distance. All of the swimmers demonstrated good technique and sportsmanship, cheering on their teammates from the poolside. Special mentions must go to Max M, George O, Harry, Erin and Sammy who all finished 1st in their individual events. The U10 boys freestyle relay team (George O, Sammy , Harry and Teddy) also dominated their race. Mr Hodgkins and Miss Lake would also like to shoutout Teddy, George M, Christopher and Henry who all swam a year up for the U11s in some of the events too. All of the swimmers should be proud of their achievements!
