Reception enjoy out of this world week!

Reception have enjoyed a fantastic final week of the Spring Term! On Tuesday they blasted off to Thinktank in Birmingham and on Wednesday they presented their class assembly to a packed audience in The Barn. The week rounded off their Space Topic perfectly.

Brimming with excitement, the children departed from King’s Hawford on Tuesday morning. They spent the day exploring the Thinktank, an award-winning science museum with over 200 science and technology hands-on displays, plus a digital Planetarium and outdoor Science Garden. . Reception’s first stop was the planetarium, where they impressed Colin with their excellent knowledge of planets! It is incredible how much information the children have absorbed this term; their space knowledge is fantastic.

The rest of the day was spent exploring the vast museum. Mini Brum provided the children with a perfect role play opportunity. It was wonderful to see them all getting hands on throughout the day. The visit definitely encouraged all of the children to think and they were full of amazing questions.

The staff were extremely impressed with the Reception children’s impeccable behaviour!

There was no time to rest on their laurels when they returned to school on Wednesday. The children had their space knowledge tested as they held a class assembly. Presented in front of a full house, the children took on the role of travel agents. The travel agents were tasked with assisting a family who wanted to book a trip to space! They sought the advice of the Travel Man, who visited each planet (with the help of a green screen) to help with their choice of destination.

What a brilliant end to their space topic and the Spring Term for Reception!
