King's Hawford

22 September

Settling into a successful term.

We are now into our third week of school and it is safe to say that pupils are fast finding their feet. It has been a busy yet satisfying week: our Year 4 pupils have been involved in overnight camps at school, our sports teams have met with success in their endeavours, House Captains have been elected and our  new School Parliament is starting to take shape.

Achievements outside of school:

Sport:

Millie B was presented with a medal for her efforts with Ombersley Cricket Club last season. The Old Elizabethan U9 Cricket Team came runners up at the County Softball Competition and three of our pupils were part of this great team. Mr Butt was delighted to present Florrie W, Jasmine O and Charlotte F with their medals. Year 6 pupil Harriet B was a member of the U11 Old Elizabethan Team, who won the County Softball in impressive fashion.

Alex V (Y2) took part in the Worcester City Junior Run on Sunday. He competed in the U11 age category and was one of the youngest runners. Despite this, he finished 24th out of a field of 148 runners, with an impressive time of 8.03.

Our Equestrian Team had a super day at the Grass Roots NSEA Show Jumping Qualifiers at Rectory Farm recently. As qualifiers, the top 6 teams and individuals in each class are eligible to compete at any Regional Grass Roots Championships. The day, sponsored by Cheltenham Ladies College, was popular with lots of entries in the 40cm and 50cm classes the girls were competing in. King’s Hawford had 3 lovely clear rounds in both classes. The team won the 40cm, with Rosie coming 4th out of 41 riders, and came 6th in the 50cm.

As a result, they qualified for the regional championships in both classes, which is a fantastic achievement. Not only this but they brought home their first piece of silverware to go on display at school, a lovely satin sash each, lots of beautiful rosettes and a packet of tasty treats for each pony! Once again, their wonderful team spirit was there for all to see and Hawford’s growth mindset was in action, with resilience, determination, kindness and support of others very much on display.

The Arts:

Well done to ‘cellists Mary W and Benjamin L, who have achieved their Grade 1 and Grade 2 music certificates respectively. Jasper P entered an art competition whilst attending the Salcombe Regatta during the summer holidays; his excellent artwork was awarded First Place in the 8-11 year old category, which is an excellent achievement.

Headmaster’s Awards:

Mr Butt was excited to award his first HMAs of the term. Well done to Jude R, who visited Mr Butt to show off his superb descriptive writing about World War II and more specifically The Blitz. Darcy B impressed her teacher with a fantastic presentation on Harry Potter and James B showed dedication to his studies, completing plenty of homework over the summer holidays. Miss Kingston was blown away by William R, who used ‘feeling adjectives’ to describe how the Queen would feel if she were to encounter a lion walking around London. As well as the excellent content, William also impressed with his fantastic handwriting.
