Sports Review: Blustery showers won’t dampen King’s Hawford on the pitch

U11/U10 Mixed Hockey against Winterfold

On a blustery, shower-filled Wednesday, the King’s Hawford Minibus was filled with enthusiastic girls looking forward to an afternoon of hockey at Winterfold.

Deciding to try playing in new positions from the start, all the girls quickly worked well together and made some good passes to each other, showing strong play in midfield. Michelle and Sofia were a dominant force and supported each other well in attacking play. Georgia and Blythe were particularly versatile in the positions they played, showing excellent skills in both attacking and defending.

The King’s Hawford girls were superb in using the wings, where Chloe, Ava and Bella put in great performances. They have been working hard on using the width of the pitch in games lessons, so seeing it put into effect was very pleasing. In defence, Grace, supported by Edith, was quick in clearing the ball and halting Winterfold’s attempt to enter the D,

King’s Hawford worked hard at communicating with each other and using the whole pitch throughout the game, resulting in some excellent play. Winterfold’s Coach chose Chloe as player of the match as she tried exceptionally hard throughout the game, and Darcy in goal for some super last-minute saves! Pupil player was awarded to Blythe. Mrs Beech was pleased with the performance and is looking forward to building on the girl’s confidence and skills in the next fixture.

U10 Boys Rugby vs Winterfold

On Wednesday of this week the Year 5 boys travelled over to Winterfold for an outstanding rugby fixture. The incredible squad depth that the year group possess was on show for all to see as all 23 boys played their part in an excellent victory. We were delighted with the boys’ commitment in defence and their ability to apply the work on rucking technique from Monday’s games lesson. The boys also ran in several outstanding tries without reply. We were especially pleased with the performances of Henry W, Ismail B and Oscar H, who scored the final try.

U10 / U11 King’s St Alban’s Swimming Gala

Another triumphant swimming gala for Hawford took place on Thursday evening. The U10 and U11 swimmers travelled to King’s St. Alban’s to compete against the hosts and RGS The Grange. Each swimmer swam three races: an individual event, a freestyle relay and medley relay. Everyone swam fantastically well and demonstrated good technique. Highlights of the evening came from Harry C, Sammy M, Erin L, Harriette T, Barnaby B, Freddie P and Max M, who all came first in their individual events. The relay events also provided pleasing points added to the totals. Special mentions must go to Pippa P (Year 4) and Teddy C (Year 5) who both swam brilliantly for the year above.
