Sports Round Up of the Week

Hockey

This week, the U10 and U11 Girls travelled away to Bromsgrove for their first fixtures of the season in a triangular tournament against Bromsgrove School and King’s St Albans.

Under 10s

Mrs Beech’s U10 King’s Hawford team delivered an outstanding performance in their triangular fixture, securing two impressive wins and showcasing superb teamwork and skill throughout.

A special mention goes to Tilly C, who stepped into goal for the first time and put in a fantastic performance. Her crucial saves and excellent clearances out wide were key to keeping the opposition at bay. Up front, Vivian and Aurelia were unstoppable, scoring sweeping goals with power and precision. The front line was well supported by Ellie H and Simi H on the wings, whose slick, well-timed passes created fast-paced attacking opportunities.

Defensively, Amelie and Eleanor were rock-solid, making strong clearances and smart runs to break down opposition attacks. Eleanor also added to the scoresheet with a brilliant top-of-the-D finish with a well-timed run. In midfield, Elise controlled the tempo of the game, demonstrating a balance of attacking flair and defensive grit. Her well-timed passes and vision ensured the whole pitch was used to full effect.

The girls should be incredibly proud of their efforts – not only for their two wins but for the strength, teamwork, and excellent hockey skills they displayed throughout the fixture. Players of each match were awarded and well deserved to Vivienne and Simi.

Well done, King’s Hawford U10.

U10Bs

Our U10s started their triangular fixture against a strong Bromsgrove side.

The girls tried hard in defence, showing determination to protect their goal. When in possession, they battled to hold onto the ball and move it forward. Special mention to Ellie M, who had a solid first outing as goalkeeper.

Key areas to build on will be spreading out across the pitch and passing the ball on the move as a team. Fearne was deservedly awarded Player of the Match.

In the second match against King’s St Alban’s, the girls showed great progress, putting in a much-improved performance. It was an exciting, end-to-end game, with the team demonstrating resilience and teamwork throughout. Ffion earned Player of the Match for her fantastic effort.

Well done to Fliss and Nina who played in their first Hockey fixture improving as the games went on.

Congratulations to all the girls for their hard work and improvement across both matches.

Under 11s

Mrs Butt’s team took on a strong Bromsgrove side for the first match of the afternoon. The girls took a little time to warm up and get with the pace of play but soon started so move the ball around with Florrie W distributing nicely out to Charlotte F on the right wing. Jasmine O held the middle brilliantly, working hard in both attack and defence and Florrie W made some crucial, well-timed tackles.

After a quick turnaround, the girls were back on the pitch to play King’s St Alban’s. Zara O and Robyn C shared the goalkeeping role this week and came away from this game with a clean slate. Valerie M worked hard at the back and linked with Rosie H who had some good opportunities on the left wing. Maysie L, Adelyn K and Ariana P all had a spell in attack to put pressure on the King’s St Alban’s Goalkeeper.

Player of the day for her hard work and distribution was Florrie W.

Miss Lake’s team faced one opposition, a well-oiled Bromsgrove team. It was a fast-paced game from the first whistle with the King’s Hawford girls making some good interceptions, which were matched by the opposition. In the second quarter, Bella P made a fantastic run down the wing with Abi T ably supporting in the D.

India B, Charlotte F and Izzy W all made valuable contributions in defence, growing in confidence to strike the ball away from our goal. The best opportunity for a goal came from Bella who positioned herself brilliantly within the D but sent the ball just wide. After switching teams at half-time, Ariana P and Adelyn K made good contributions in midfield and Georgia B worked tirelessly in the central midfield position.

Player of the day was awarded to Daisy E for her determination and resilience on the pitch.

Rugby

On Wednesday afternoon, the U10 and U11 boys kickstarted their rugby fixtures with a series of matches at the Kings senior school playing fields.

U11s

Mr Hodgkins’ U11 team were pitted against their counterparts from Winterfold School in what was a very close and entertaining match-up. As will often be the case this term, the Hawford boys were joined by their peers from King’s St Alban’s to form a combined King’s Junior school team. The boys quickly gelled together and produced a strong team performance.

Mr Hodgkins was especially pleased by the intelligent decision making in possession, which included several timely passes and offloads out of tackles.

Nicholas H-T was captain for the day and set the tone with his superb levels of effort and determination. The quick and agile running of Austin R was a constant throughout the match and he will be delighted with his haul of no fewer than six tries.

A very encouraging start to the rugby term and one which the boys will be keen to continue in our next set of fixtures as we travel to RGS The Grange next week.

U11As

The Under 11 A team also joined forces with their peers from King’s St Alban’s for the very first time, forming a combined King’s Worcester Under 11 side. This newly united team faced strong opposition in a triangular fixture against Winterfold and The Elms, and they rose to the occasion with an impressive display of rugby.

Across the two matches, the boys showcased some outstanding attacking play, crossing the try line eight times in total. Leading the charge was Sam L-C, who made an excellent impression in his debut outing for the school. His vision and determination set the tone for the team’s attacking intent. Jack J also stood out, using his pace and power to great effect, consistently breaking through defensive lines and creating scoring opportunities.

Equally commendable was the team’s defensive effort. Every Hawford player demonstrated remarkable commitment, making numerous tackles and ensuring that their opponents were kept under constant pressure. This collective resilience was a key factor in the team’s success and highlighted the strong spirit within the squad.

After such a promising start, there is every reason to believe that this group will go from strength to strength.

U10s

Our Under 10 rugby team’s first outing of the season was a challenging mini tournament with King’s St Alban’s. Winterfold and The Elms.

All three games could easily have gone either way but some resolute defence and individual attacking flair shone through.

Particularly pleasing was the way the boys put their teamwork to the test with a well co-ordinated press defence that panicked the opposition. There is clearly a lot to work on over the course of the season but this was an excellent start.
