Netball

U10 v The Blue Coat School

Mrs Beech’s team

The U10s, captained by Ellie H, delivered an excellent performance, demonstrating growing confidence, strong teamwork, and great understanding of the game throughout the match. From the opening whistle, the girls played with energy and focus, moving the ball quickly through the court and working hard for each other in both attack and defence.

In the shooting circle, Amelie B and Eleanor N were outstanding, showing composure and accuracy to score a number of well-worked goals. Their movement off the ball created space, and they combined effectively with the mid-court to convert attacking opportunities and keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Across the centre court, Vivienne, Ffion, and Ellie H produced superb performances, controlling the pace of the game and linking defence to attack with smart passing and strong decision-making. Their work rate was exceptional, and they consistently supported both ends of the court, helping to maintain possession and apply pressure when the opposition had the ball.

Defensively, the team worked together to create numerous turnovers. Tilly and Elise showed strong defensive skills, staying tight on their opponents, reading the play well, and making important interceptions. Their pressure forced errors and allowed the team to transition quickly back into attack.

Overall, it was a very encouraging performance, with excellent passages of play across all areas of the court.

The girls showed determination in the rain, teamwork, and clear improvement, making it a match to be proud of for players and coaches.

Miss Lake’s team

On Miss Lake’s court, the King’s Hawford girls made a confident start, with Fliss netting two quick goals to set the tone. After the first quarter, Blue Coat settled into the match and the game became more end-to-end, creating an exciting contest.

Simi and Fliss combined effectively as a shooting pair, while Alanna and Georgia produced several superb interceptions in midcourt to turn possession over.

At the defensive end, Nina and Fearne worked tirelessly in defence. As the final whistle blew, the scoreline remained tight, reflecting the evenly matched nature of the game.

Fliss was deservedly named Player of the Match by both the Blue Coat players and staff after a superb all-round performance.

U11 v The Blue Coat School

King’s Hawford were delighted to host The Blue Coat School for what is always a highly competitive fixture – and were especially grateful for the only dry day of the week! Both courts saw exciting, fast-paced netball, providing perfect preparation for the upcoming IAPS tournament.

Mrs Butt’s Team

This fixture consistently brings out the best in both schools, and King’s Hawford began with real intent. The team made an excellent start, with Ariana and Jasmine putting early goals on the scoreboard. In defence, Zara and Rosie were outstanding, dominating their circle and capitalising on Blue Coat’s unlucky moments under the post.

In the centre court, Adelyn, Valerie, and Bella worked tirelessly, moving the ball with control and precision. Their efforts ensured King’s Hawford held on to a narrow lead at half-time.

The match grew increasingly physical, with contact called frequently across the court. Despite the intensity, the King’s Hawford girls remained composed, maintaining focus and determination.

A challenging third quarter allowed Blue Coat to narrow the gap, but in the final period Jasmine, Florrie, and Charlotte dug deep, working their socks off to bring the score back to a nail-biting finish.

The Blue Coat coaches selected Bella as Player of the Match for her resilience and strength against a very physical opposition. Mrs Butt would also like to give a special mention to Rosie, whose impeccable defending effectively marked her player out of the game.

A thrilling performance and an exciting lead-in to Friday’s IAPS competition.

Miss Cook’s Team

On the adjacent court, Miss Cook’s team faced a similarly strong and determined Blue Coat side. Captained with confidence by Izzy, the girls showed fantastic teamwork from the first whistle to the last.

In attack, Indie, Izzy, and Abi combined beautifully, scoring several well-worked goals. Their link-up play with Maysie, who brought boundless energy throughout the match, helped drive the team forward.

Further up the court, Abi, Georgie, and Charlotte demonstrated excellent passing sequences, helping transition the ball smoothly into attack.

Defensively, Robyn, Daisy, and Annie worked relentlessly, making crucial interceptions and closely marking their players to disrupt Blue Coat’s rhythm.

The opposition awarded Abi T Player of the Match for her impressive all-round contribution.

A superb afternoon of netball from both King’s Hawford teams – full of grit, skill, and teamwork. Well done, girls!

Football

U11 vs Monmouth Prep

Kings Hawford’s two U11 teams travelled to Monmouth Prep School on Wednesday and both produced highly committed performances against strong opposition on compact pitches.

Despite limited space, both sides demonstrated excellent work rate, enthusiasm, and resilience throughout their fixtures, consistently looking to apply what they have been developing in training.

Mr Hodgkin’s team

Mr Hodgkins’s team showed real progress in their defensive shape, working hard to stay organised and support one another, while also making intelligent movements when transitioning into attack.

This focus paid off with a standout moment of quality, as Harry played a perfectly weighted through ball that was met by Austin, who finished confidently first time through the legs of the goalkeeper.

Miss Benvie’s team

Miss Benvie’s team matched this energy and determination, continuing to develop their positional awareness and decision making under pressure. The players worked tirelessly both on and off the ball, showing increasing confidence in when to pass, move, and support teammates.

Their perseverance was deservedly rewarded when Nicholas showed great determination to secure his first goal of the term, a moment that reflected the team’s growing understanding and commitment.

Overall, both teams can be proud of their efforts and the clear progress shown against challenging opponents.

Swimming

Twenty U10 and U11 swimmers travelled to Blue Coat School in Edgbaston to take part in an exciting swimming gala against the hosts.

Unlike previous galas this year, swimmers were challenged to compete over 50m in their individual events, incorporating tumble turns that have been practised during Early Morning Swim sessions and PE lessons. The children rose superbly to the occasion, delivering an excellent performance against strong opposition.

The standard of swimming was high throughout, with Zara O and Rupert T claiming well-earned, hard-fought victories in their respective races. There were also several thrillingly close races between King’s Hawford teammates. Maysie L and Abi T, Thomas C and Isaac H, Charlotte F and Florrie W, and Sam L-C and Will G were all separated by less than a second, highlighting both the depth of talent and the competitive spirit within the team.

Overall, the gala was a fantastic display of skill, determination and sportsmanship, and the swimmers should be extremely proud of their efforts.
