The children showed clear progress in their movement and application of skills learned during lessons, as well as spatial awareness with the players using the width of the court effectively, maintaining their positions. It was pleasing to see the girls showcasing more accurate and confident passing, dodging and shooting, as well as game rule awareness.

A special mention goes to all teams for achieving impressive results, with fantastic wins recorded across the board in the three games that each team played.

Players of the Match were awarded to Elizabeth, Marelia, Trixie, Poppy and Iona. The Girls’ Games staff would like to congratulate all girls for their dedication and enthusiasm this term for what has been an excellent season of netball.

U9 v RGS The Grange

The U9s rounded off their competitive netball season with an exceptionally positive performance putting out three teams against RGS The Grange. It was a wonderful occasion that truly showcased just how far every single girl has come since the start of the term. Their progress has been remarkable – greater confidence on the ball, improved movement and spacing, and, most importantly, a growing love for the game that shone through from start to finish.

Despite battling extremely windy conditions throughout the afternoon, the girls refused to let the swirling gusts dampen their spirits. They remained focused, enthusiastic and determined, playing with a maturity and resilience far beyond their years. Every player enjoyed maximum court time and each one made valuable contributions to their team’s overall success. It was brilliant to see them applying skills learnt in training and supporting one another so naturally on the court.

Mrs Butt’s Team

Mrs Butt’s team delivered an especially impressive performance, demonstrating excellent teamwork and communication. Martha, Indie and Aoife linked beautifully through the mid‑court, moving the ball with pace and accuracy to create several shooting opportunities. Although the strong winds made converting these chances particularly challenging, their composure and persistence were outstanding.

In defence, Sadie and Syrenna were a formidable pairing. Both girls showed fantastic discipline in marking their players closely and produced several superbly timed interceptions, often turning defence into attack. Their tenacity helped the team regain possession on numerous occasions and kept the momentum firmly on their side.

Player of the Match: Martha – awarded by the opposition for her excellent work rate, movement and impact throughout the game.

A special mention to Maddie, who took on the vital roles of captain, scorer and centre pass tracker with great efficiency, providing invaluable support to Mrs Butt in her umpiring duties.

Mrs Halpin’s Team

The U9 girls delivered a fantastic performance against RGS The Grange, showing great teamwork and determination throughout the match. Their passing was particularly impressive, with some lovely flowing movement across the court, and they demonstrated strong defensive skills with several well-timed interceptions.

It was wonderful to see all the girls confidently take on each of the five positions, showcasing their versatility and growing understanding of the game. The match was exciting to watch, with play often going end to end and keeping everyone engaged.

A big well done to Tanith, Alice, Bella and Rosie, who all scored some excellent goals to help secure a well-deserved victory.

RGS selected Bella as their Player of the Match for her outstanding effort and energy on court, while Mrs Halpin’s Player of the Match went to Emily for her excellent contribution. Overall, it was a brilliant team performance, and every player should be proud of how they played.

Miss Cook’s Team

Miss Cook’s team rounded off their final fixture of the season with a performance full of energy, teamwork, and real tactical awareness.

One of the standout features of the match was how brilliantly the girls found space across the court as they were always on the move, always creating options and showing a growing understanding of how to work together. Their passing was impressively precise and confident, helping the team maintain strong momentum throughout the game.

Jessica demonstrated huge improvements today. She made several excellent catches under pressure and showed fantastic anticipation, reading the play beautifully to make well‑timed interceptions that turned defence into attack. Isla was a constant presence all over the court and thoroughly deserved the Player of the Match award. Her tight man‑marking, clever positioning and confident movement made her a key part of both the defensive and attacking phases.

This final fixture was a wonderful celebration of teamwork, progress and enjoyment. The girls should be incredibly proud of their efforts this season – they have grown in confidence, skill and understanding of the game, and their positive attitudes have made every match a pleasure to watch.

Well done to all the U9s on a fantastic season!

Football

U8 Football Festival at RGS The Grange

King’s Hawford’s U8 football teams brought their term to a fitting close with an excellent festival at RGS The Grange on Tuesday afternoon.

As their final fixture of the term, it provided the perfect opportunity for both teams to showcase the progress they have made since September, and they did exactly that with confident, energetic performances throughout. Across all matches, the boys demonstrated improved teamwork, positional awareness, and a growing understanding of the game, reflecting the hard work and commitment they have shown in training over recent weeks.

Mr Hodgkins’ team enjoyed a very successful afternoon, beginning with a dominant performance against King’s St Alban’s. This was followed by another superb display against Winterfold, where their hard work, strong passing, and intelligent movement was a joy to watch. They rounded off the festival with a very pleasing result against RGS The Grange, capping an impressive series of performances.

All the boys contributed brilliantly, but special mention must go to Charlie for his excellent defending, Jonty and Theodore for their superb movement and clinical finishing, and Elliott for his constant goal threat and powerful dribbling, which caused problems for every team they faced.

U11 Football Tournament at King’s Hawford

King’s Hawford hosted an excellent U11 football tournament on Wednesday afternoon, welcoming seven other schools from across the region for what proved to be a brilliant afternoon of football on the top field.

In their final fixture of the term, the Hawford team rose to the occasion superbly, demonstrating commitment, hard work, and outstanding defensive organisation throughout the competition. Their resilience at the back was particularly impressive, with the team conceding just one goal across the entire tournament – an achievement that reflected their discipline and teamwork.

In the group stage, Hawford secured two draws and suffered a narrow defeat, which was enough to see them progress to the shield final against Hereford Cathedral School. The final was a closely contested affair, finishing 0–0 after a tense battle, before the Hawford boys held their nerve to claim victory in a penalty shootout.

Every player contributed brilliantly to the success, but special praise must go to Sam and Charles, who impressed with their excellent dribbling in outfield positions and also deputised outstandingly in goal. Luca’s hard work and determination were evident throughout, while William and Jack delivered consistently solid performances in defence to help underpin a memorable team effort.
