Sports Round-Up: Spring Term – Week 11

In this week’s sports round-up we look at all of the fixtures that have taken place this term. Unfortunately, our girls’ sports fixtures were cancelled this week, due to high levels of COVID in the opposition.  The U9 boys put on an excellent performance in their final fixtures of the term against Hereford Catherdral School. Our U11 boys played their final tournament of the season at Slingpool Walk on Wednesday, also putting in some strong performances; meanwhile, the U10 boys travelled to RGS The Grange for their matches. Yesterday a mixed team of U10/U11 girls played against Abberley Parochial Primary School, thoroughly enjoying the experience, and putting on a good team performance.

Girls’ Football v Abberley Parochial School

We had a visit yesterday afternoon from Mr Turvey of Abberley Parochial School with his girls’ football teams. We had a mixture of 15 girls from Years 5 and 6 take part in the matches. The girls were split into two mixed ability teams for what was their first girls’ match playing for Hawford. All the girls played well and were all very tired by the end; they swapped teams at half time so they all played against both of the visiting teams. All played with great determination and teamwork, It was great to see the girls having fun and enjoying the game, with some great support on the sideline by parents.  Miss Holtham and Miss Layton are very proud of the girls for a fantastic game and we hope to see Mr Turvey again for some cricket next term.

U11 King’s Hawford Football Tournament

On Wednesday afternoon King’s Hawford played host to 14 schools at our Senior School pitches. It was a fantastic afternoon of football, played in glorious sunshine. The Hawford team experienced a number of dramatic matches, including two with penalty shootouts. Despite playing some great football, we finished runners up in the shield final, losing on penalties.

On Tuesday afternoon the U9 boys finished their term of football with two excellent matches against Hereford Cathedral School. The games were played at a good tempo and the Hawford boys started to play some really nice passing football in spells during the second half. Super performances from Harry C, Palmer G, Rory G and Leighton S were the highlights of the afternoon.
