U8 & U9 Football v Winterfold & The Downs
A mixed Years Three and Four team was hastily put together on Tuesday to take on Year Four teams from Winterfold and The Downs. The boys were simply amazing and, whilst the football wasn’t always the most attractive they have played this season, their grit, work-rate and determination paid dividends. Austin R was in the thick of the action, playing from box to box, and Tom H led the line well. Cassian W once again made a string of excellent saves between the sticks. All the Year Three boys should be congratulated for the way that they seamlessly stepped up a level, and the Year Fours commended for their footballing maturity.
U8 Netball v Blue Coat School
On Thursday, the U8 girls were very excited to host Bluecoat for their first netball matches on our home courts. They were well supported by a super crowd of parents, who cheered them on from the side-lines and gave them an extra boost against a strong opposition.
The King’s Hawford girls had their first introduction to playing netball positions, and were delighted to put on the position patches and rotate through Centre, Goal Attack, Goal Shooter, Goalkeeper and Goal Defence.
The girls took to their new roles immediately and impressed with their slick passing and some excellent shooting. Goals were scored by a number of different girls, demonstrating the strength in depth of this group, who went on to win both matches. Mrs Butt was particularly impressed with the girls’ ability to adapt to the new rules introduced and the speed with which they grasped the new tactical and positional play. They should all be very proud of their performances; no doubt this will contribute to their growing confidence in the game.
A special mention must go to Sofia R, who confidently stepped in last minute, and to Eleanor and Persie, who replaced injured players for the opposition. They showed exemplary attitudes and terrific sportsmanship.
All the girls played beautifully today, with particular congratulations going to Alanna and Eleanor for being nominated as Players of the Match by the opposition. Well done girls!
