The Great Hawford Bake Off

It was another exciting Hawford Bake-Off this year as pupils throughout the school battled it out to showcase their wonderful baking talents.

It all began with Mrs Marshall-Walker’s ‘Great Hawford Bake Off’ heats on Monday (14th June). The Pre-Prep children were tasked with baking some delicious tarts, and the Prep children created some delicious, and occasionally rather unusual, tray-bake combinations.

After a good deal of tasting and ruminating, a winner from each House (Bredon, Kinver, Malvern and Clent) was selected to go through to the final. Many congratulations to Eva M, Emily S, Sam M and Erin L in Prep. Our Pre-Prep finalists were Chloe T, Elliot C, Josiah and Lyra. After all that baking the children enjoyed eating the fruits of their labour as well as raising a staggering £184 for our school charities.

For our talented finalists the competition was far from over as they went through to an exciting live final that was held in The Barn last Friday (18th June). A huge congratulations to those competing for keeping their cool and managing to recreate their bake under such pressure. The judges were extremely impressed with the quality of bakes, but as we all know, there can only be one winner. Or in this case one winner for Pre-Prep and one winner for Prep.

Congratulations to Josiah K-E for winning the Pre-Prep Top Baker prize, and Eva M for taking the Top Baker title in Prep.

It was a great day for baking, with all children in school enjoying a slice of homemade pizza from our brand-new pizza oven.

Mrs Marshall-Walker said: “The Great Hawford Bake Off is an annual event that the children really look forward to, so we were very pleased to be able to run it this year with some adjustments.

The standard of baking from our finalists was exceptional so I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the children who made it so far in the competition, and of course to Josiah and Eva – our 2021 Star Bakers.”
